Well my friend gets out of hospital soon, possibly today. Problem seems to have cleared up after treatment, but scans are booked next week anyway. Unfortunately my other mate's gran is still dead but he seems to be doing good. I guess it was expected for the last few months.

I feel pretty good - 'tis Friday! And the first home game of the new football season is tomorrow. Woo! Rangers looked pretty good last week on the opening day, so here's hoping we can have a good season.

Glad things are on the up.

i think you got the wrong thread btw mate, but thats shit. The way uni is funded pisses me off. I'm doing a degree in music thats gonna put me in so much debt its untrue, i just hope i get a job where i can pay it off.

Wowzers a music degree? Tell me more... (in the "how do you feel today?" thread though plz thx  )

Well i'm going to Brighton in september to do degree in modern music. I'm on the guitar course at Brighton Insutitute of Modern Music And hoping to become a session musician or even better, make a living from being in a band. But the first year of the course costs just under 5 grand (and its 3 years long)!!! I know i'll come out an excellent guitarist but i'm really worried about job prospects after i finish the course.

Oh, And this guys gonna be one of my tutors Guthrie Govan :D (check out the little Vid

Rather vexed. There's a rumour flying around at work that I've been trying to hit on this ugly woman. Tomorrow I shall have my victory when I expose the culprit.

Oh cool, that place sounds pretty interesting but I don't know much about it. I know Brighton is a pretty cultured place to live. I did one at Leeds College of Music. I guess you really only get out what you put in at these places. It's not like a more academic subject where you have to work hard or else you're in deep shit. It's a problem with music education that if you're lazy you can just about coast through. I know people that went through three years at lcm and hardly improved at all. Then at the same time I knew people that improved massively just because they were commited and prepared to go the extra mile beyond what their teachers were asking them to. I found though that I learnt more from the other students I met than the teachers themselves.

Jebus now I sound like an old guy giving advice or something lame like that

What instrument do you play??? And what did you come out of Leeds with (qualification wise)??

Because i'm paying a lot to go there i will not let myself just coast through. That would just be a wast of my time (just like college was!) and my parents money. So i'm gonna have to keep the alcohol to a minimum lol! I think the thing i'm looking forward to most is learning to play new styles other than metal, if i'm to be a session musician i need to be much more versitile then i am now. They also teach live performace at brighton, we get to play in a 2000 seat arena (its empty though  ) and through a HUGE PA to practice things like stage presence and live sound managment. That sounds like fun!

I play the saxophone and I got a BA in jazz music... kind of lame, really

Well, I would have loved to have been a session musician but it's even harder on that instrument than otherwise. (You're mostly expected to be able to double on at least flute and clarinet as well- neither of which I had any intention of learning). Man, good luck with that. Nice work if you can get it, but yeah, you'd really have to be near the top in your field to make a big success of it. Lots of work for anyone to reach the right level, but I guess that's the exciting part. No reason anyone can't do it if they're dedicated :)

I wanted to get on a postgrad course at one of the big places in London this year but that didn't work out and I got a bit disillusioned. Pretty much decided I didn't want to do music as a career anymore, so now I'm doing an MA in international politics. And that's where my financial problems start...

Just start a jazzed-up metal band!

I feel tense and weird. I don't like this feeling, I need to get home and let some TV dissolve my brain.

I'm rather relieved. I accidentally left my car window open last night, and it rained. Fortunately, the interior has dried out well.

Might have been a little to do with that, sort've. I took a monumentally straightforward shit earlier and that helped a little.

Went to the gym earlier thinking that'd ease me up a bit, but to no avail. :?

Maybe you're having a mild post traumatic stress thing. Cause of the thing you said that happened with your friend.
