Despite being busier than I've ever been before, especially at the beginning of a semester, I am deleriously happy. I just made up with a very, very good friend that I had a bad falling-out with last December.

Typical "its Monday and for some reason I feel uneasy in my gut" feeling. I'm totally going to end up with an ulcer at this rate.

I got a free heart checkup today and they said my heart is strong like bull! On the downside they shaved patches on my chest to put the sticky pads on, and now I look like the 40 year old virgin.

I feel great. My mum just gave me a beer and fucked off to bed which whilst in anybody elses life would mean nothing is very symbolic in mine-my parents will never give me alchohol, it's like the trust is coming. On another note ins chool I was being quite the funny bastard and as a result had this hot girl coming onto me very blatantly, woohoo for comedy and stuff.

I'm tired. Finnish class is too early in the morning and too far away (40-minute bus ride). Like most foreign language classes, it's making me think about my own native tongue and the way it's constructed. For example, today we learned about postpositional phrases. Native English speakers, have you ever thought about the fact that most prepositions don't really mean anything? What's the real difference between the words at, near and by, for example? Why do we say "at the table" instead of "by the table" when speaking of sitting in close proximity to said table? (On a related note, if any Finnish speaker would like to clarify the difference between lähellä, ääressä and luona, you'll earn my gratitude.)

The english language seems to be constantly changing and evolving. I don't know if other languages do this as much, but english is designed to express the most subtle messages in communication. The problem is that trying to sort it all the meanings into a comfortable schema creates a massive headache. If you are "at the table" you are interacting with the table, such as having dinner. If you are "by the table" then you are just next to it without any interaction.

Precisely. English likes assigning all sorts of different meanings to the same word, and it's very mutable, especially in the modern age. It's interesting to learn a language like Finnish, because it's so different grammatically and very conservative. Apparenly the word for mother, äiti, is still fairly well preserved from the Germanic word it originally came from back in antiquity.

I am infuriated. I was driving back to town on my lunch break, and I got the honor of getting stuck behind a flat-bed Semi-Truck. Well, this dipshit didn't properly tie his load down, and I got a HUGE piece of sheet metal right on the hood. It then bounces of the hood, and hits my car dead on the windshield. The windshield held up somehow, but now my hood is scratched to fuck, and my front headlight was busted. Of course, I was unable to obtain the license plate number of this jerk-off, for I was too worried about not running off the road and dying. Now I can only hope that my insurance company will pay to have it fixed. GRRRRRRRRR.
