Spain were very good, but Prandelli fielded like a fool.

If Germany hadn't bottled it against Italy we would have had a very different final indeed.

4-0, has a team ever been dominated that badly in a final?

They nay sayers have all been made to look like utter fools. DOubt SPain at your peril.

VIVA ESPANA!

Actually, only one person has been made to look like an utter fool: look in the mirror.

Congrats to the Spanish though, incredible performance.

Blackdoom, seriously, eat shit. I know you aren't happy with the result, but that makes it even sweeter for me. So again, eat shit.

You're right, but I' not sure the result would have been any different. Germany had a much weaker defense than Italy and I'm not sure they had a more potent offense.

Yes, it would have been different, but Spain still would have dominated. This final showed what Spain in full gear looks like, practically unstoppable. Germany would have lost yet again.

I didn't know that Cassano had a stroke in October! And he played in the final eight months later. That's amazing.

It seems Deschamps just DECLINED the offer. LOL.

If Zidane is willing to leave his cushy post at Real Madrid, he would be an excellent choice. They will no doubt approach him at some point.

I told you it wasn't gonna happen with Le Graët!
Paul Le Guen or Reynald Denoueix are my two guesses as to who's going to get the job.

Yeah you were right. I thought with the upcoming FFF presidency elections Le Graët was going to cave in, but no. I'd like Denoueix, yes. I don't think Le Guen will bother considering an offer though, the pay isn't good enough. Or so I hope...

My guess is Alain Boghossian.

Haha :) Yeah I think Le Graet will just go for the internal solution, even though it is a bad one. We're doomed for at least a decade anyway.

how about the "fat peasant" (to quote page 1 or 2 of this thread) Guy Roux?

Holy Terror, you exaggerate Spain's virtues. they beat a weak French side, they were held against the wall by Portugal (who really play without a striker) and had to go to penalties, and they beat an exhausted Italian side in the final, down to 10 men an hour in.

Spain have an incredible side - they can afford to bench fucking Fabregas, for crying out loud - to the point that second-stringers like Llorente and Javi Martinez would pretty much walk into any other side, and their teamwork is second to none, but to say that Spain just walked all over the competition is simply unfair.

still, this is clearly one of the finest national sides ever put together, and easily the best in the past 10 years. only Zizou's France come close.

No. He just appears in commercials for cheap phone operators, cheap travel operators and does cheap radio talk shows nowadays. He's a cheap old dude.

And too old anyway.

Jean Fernandez (who coached Auxerre too and is actually with Nancy), would be the "modern guy roux" option. A good one too.

You're not seriously considering Jean Fernandez for the french squad now, are you? The man who, when he qualified Auxerre to the CL, was happy like a child to have the chance to shake hands with Mourinho and cherished the idea of taking a picture with him. I love the guy - he's seems like a genuine good man -, and I respect the coach - what he managed to do with Auxerre that year was impressive -, but he's not fit for he National squad.

Better him than Le Guen though.

edit: Arsène Wenger apparently said 'no' as well. He under contrat with Arsenal till 2014, so maybe after the World Cup he will. The 2016 Euro happens to be hosted by France, with Wenger in charge it could be nice.

edit 2: but we're here, talking about crappy french football and lame french coaches. Massive kudos and total respect to Mr. Vicente del Bosque, who is the first man to win the CL (two times with Real Madrid), the Euro and the World Cup. What he REALLY needs now to complete his insane career is to drop the fucking mustache.
Also, what a terrific job Prandelli has done. You have to remember, in 2010 Italy were in the bin, because of a cycle end mostly. And yet two years later with an almost whole new team (only Buffon, Pirlo, Chiellini, Bonnucci, and Montolivo remained, and most of them were substitutes at the time), they manage to reach the final AND to play an attractive football.

Must say, that is class by Casillas. Almost as classy as Neuer letting the Greek penalty shot in.

He is a special athlete. Rare to see one with that kind of a sense of honor. He has earned the name "San Iker."

bah. he could have just told his teammates to start passing the ball more passively and let the italians push further up.

he's a great player and a gentleman on the pitch, but asking a referee to stop like that, and one minute from time, was lame.
