Thanks for your e-mail about ‘Question Time’ shown on 03 June.

I understand that you were unhappy with the make up of the panel including Kelvin MacKenzie who you felt made Islamophobic comments.

Your concerns were raised with the programme's Executive Editor who explained that Kelvin MacKenzie is a high profile tabloid newspaper columnist - and former editor - with strong opinions. ‘Question Time’ considers him to be a suitable panellist since the programme is committed to including a wide range of views and perspectives. His views are often controversial, but robust argument is the very essence of ‘Question Time’.

Apparently it's now ok to be islamophobic if you're a newspaper columnist. Good old BBC, only took 'em a month or so to think that up.

If he were a 'serious' journalist he would have been assassinated for those opinions by now

Oh, he is. Even ignoring the Islamophobia, the coverage of Hillsborough by The Sun under him was an utter disgrace. To give an American comparison, imagine The New York Times claiming victims of 9/11 urinated on police, pickpocketing the bodies of the dead etc, and the editor refusing to apologise... 'fucking cunt' was made for McKenzie.

Nerd time! So I took that Political Compass test again just now when I should have been writing.

Lolwut. I know it's not that reliable, etc, but it's quite seriously moved away from where it was before, which was roughly here. At this rate, I'll be a libertarian before I'm 30. Yikes. Better start reading that Hayek.

This test is always fun! 5 years ago, I remember my profile looked much like your old one, Zad (strongly left and libertarian). Now, it looks like my progression has swung almost to neutral libertarian/authoritarian . By 31 I should be comfortably in the authoritarian zone, and may have even moved from slight left to slight right. By 50 I ought to be one mean bastard

NOW ASYLUM IF YOU'RE GAY

For some reason this reads less like a newspaper headlines and more like an Engrish "All your base are belong to us" expression of dominance.

Good old express, they probably had a similar headline when the kindertransports started arriving. "What if gypsy children pretend to be Jewish?!"

This bit made me chuckle.

Quote:
Supreme Court judge Lord Rodger said gay people’s right to live freely must be protected.

He said: “Just as male heterosexuals are free to enjoy themselves playing rugby, drinking beer and talking about girls with their mates, so male homosexuals are to be free to enjoy themselves going to Kylie concerts, drinking exotically-coloured cocktails and talking about boys with their straight female mates.”

Because this is the exact difference between hetero-s and homo-s.

I'm glad that this LibDem concern has been taken up and we're no longer following the Labour tradition of telling them to keep it quiet for fear of getting lynched.

Isn't he the one who argues in favour of mass murder in revolutions, and got caught lying about what Chomsky said to win an argument? Yay for Zizek! Annoying video, I kept wanting to offer him a tissue. Only non-meandering, non-vague thing he said was about Berlesconi, which was interesting re clown-faced authoritarianism, but I wouldn't at all accept that that is the future of politics.

Never heard of this... I don't think so.

Stop slandering Zizek, Goat!
