Jindabyrne - Unsettling little Aussie drama about some guys who find a body on a fishing trip but carry on fishing, although it's much more complicated than that. Laura Linney was great as usual.

Oh I heard that was good. But no one would go see it with me.

 really?!... i saw that too two days ago.

however... i was not that impressed. The fight scenes was awsome, but you could drive trucks through the plot holes - and i got so confused at times.
Plus, asian humor can be a real pain in the ass and wtf was the idea with the modern dance sequence in the end?!

more like [5/10] for me

Ong Bak - the muay thai warrior [5/10]some of the best fight sequence ever! no fakes, wires etc was used. Tony Jaa is fucking insane :dio: .. but again... somewhat weak story and at times annoying asian humor, plus some chaces makes no sense other than looking cool. What's the point with running on tables jump over obstacles when the road a half meter away is open?!?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZSPo-74iBc a small show he did during a halftime. Contains some of the elements from the movie... the last bit is incredible, i think.

The Ninth Gate [8+/10]

teh awsome... :P

I"m sorry to announce to you that you don't watch martial arts movies for the story, you watch it for the high octane action and fights, and this movie totally delivers on the goods. The story is mediocre at best, but it could be far worst..ahem....Protector...Ahem. Ong -Bak is a martial arts must see and for that it's a 8/10

I wasn't confused by it really. I could see some people finding it so however as some transitions to new scenes can be very quick and all of a sudden be dealing with something that happened years ago with not much of a warning. I noticed it all though. Plus I love the humour.. those farmers making music while working in the fields and the idiot running around with the spear was hilarious. The funniest part was when Shinkichi was trying to teach those 3 guys how to sword fight.

I also thought the soundtrack was great and I loved the ending dance thingy, and its not like it was random or anything, they did mention that a festival was going on.

I gave it an 8 however because it does tend to drag on too long, the middle section has quite a few boring scenes.

hmm I just read that the DVD release of Death Proof is actually an extended version that they added more dialogue too... I can't imagine someone watching that movie and thinking "Yeah it definitely needs some more talking"

Seems like a bizarre book to make into a film. How did they go about it?

A kind of fictional documentary, with some weird serial killer subplot.

So very little to do with the book, then.

It's basically documenting bizarre self-inflicted accidental deaths and injuries. Interesting reading.

Well, that's what the film is about really, only there's a plot built up around them. I'd imagine the book is better if you're just after the deaths...

It seems very odd to adapt a plot for a non-fiction book.

It's an odd film. I must say, it's also the one film that I've seen Joseph "Not Ralph" Fiennes and liked his character. Either he's great at portraying slimy bastards, or he is one.

Anyhow, worth watching more than not.

I just saw it tonight and fuck me deep that opening half hour was a drag. I mean, I know dislikable characters are the point, I know the plot was meant to be paper thin...but I went to see a film with no plot and characters I hated!

I felt sorry for Kurt by the end.

Zodiac - Looooong and slooooow, but sort of worth it. Should've been half the length, though. Made me want to see Dirty Harry again more than anything.
