But kinda sad, too, cause it's got some truth in it.

Incredible to think about it, even if it is a fake article.

On a hopefully less fake note: California is expecting a budget surplus this fiscal year? Who knew?

The British far-left has a serious problem with basic feminism.

The British media has a serious problem with framing all instances of injustice as Eastern. A response to the issue by someone I don't loathe. http://www.leninology.com/2013/01/crisis-in-swp.html

It's a pretty gross injustice, but the Left always has a problem with old Left dudes being douches.

What, re 'sharia'? The guy quoted in the piece uses it, don't see the issue? And it's a bit much, considering the way left-wingers would kick off if a senior member of, say, the Conservatives had a rape covered up by the party. SWP always have been pretty disgusting, but this is beyond the pale.

Speaking of the left, it's all kicking off after a feminist writer wrote this about transsexuals

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... anssexuals

in the usually right-on Guardian.

Sample quote:

Quote:
And we are damned if we are going to be accused of being privileged by a bunch of bed-wetters in bad wigs.

For sheer epic trollage have to give a

Quote:
Thousands of sick or disabled people have died after undergoing assessments to find out whether they were fit to work, the House of Commons was told today.

Atos, the firm contracted to conduct work capability assessment (WCA) tests for the Government, was condemned by MPs for “ruthlessly” pressurising sick and disabled people into returning to their jobs.

The debate was told of cases of people who had committed suicide after being stripped of their benefits under the process and of an incontinence sufferer who was told she could return to work wearing a nappy.

Former Labour minister Michael Meacher opened the debate saying that 1,300 people had died after being placed in the “work-related activity group”, for those currently too ill to be employed but expected to start preparing for an eventual return to work.

A further 2,200 died before the assessment process was completed and 7,100 died after being judged to be entitled to unconditional support because they are too ill or disabled to work.

China, you're doing modern punishment wrong. Spectacles are the past, surveillance is now. I like how the crisis of morality that capitalism/postmodernism has opened up leads towards this weird atavism where surveillance no longer works because the internalization of authority is being undermined as the order of things seems to be fracturing and so through the cracks you have a resurfacing of seemingly anachronistic, Draconian forms of control.

The past few weeks I've been working with a professor on their book about sex offense laws in America. With those, you have the intense form of surveillance through registering, but you also have the old style dungeon, 'lock 'em up, throw away the key' through banning sex offenders from living in certain areas. The old form of banishment and the creation of a pariah class comes back alongside the new technological forms of knowledge, everyone having access to databases of who has committed what crimes, where they live, a quantified value of their possibility for recidivism. It's wild and wacky stuff.

If it happened in a TV series, I would roll my eyes at it for being too absurd. Can't wait till O and Kim play some one on one. O's got the height obv and probably the skills to dominate on him.

I'm amused that the new Pope apparently doesn't know English, unlike the previous two. Not sure how that is going to help the Church return its multitude of lapsed Catholics in N. America and Europe to the flock, but what do I know?

That's only slightly better than embracing communism.
