Halo 3 ODST got a 9 at IGN. They are doing some midninght openings around here tomorrow night, so I will probably go after work and pick it up. According to the review it's very Halo: Combat Evolvedish, and if this is true then sweet. Because I loved the first Halo to death.

I really hopes it's reminiscent of Combat Evolved, it was the best Halo game by FAR; The only thing missing was online play. ODST looks more like Halo 2, but we'll see. It'll be hard to recapture that original Halo "Feel".

Will play it tonight after the Leafs-Pens game and then I will come on here and state my opinion on it. I am hoping it is good, as all reviews say it is.

On Thursday (my birthday) I'm going to download Battlefield 1943 for XBLA. I'm also hoping to get Grandia for the PS1 and/or Ready 2 Rumble Boxing for the Dreamcast for my birthday. If not, then I'll probably get Diablo II from Blizzard's website, since I've been meaning to play it ever since I beat the original almost six months ago.

Awesome,you still have your Dreamcast,me too.Great system.Grandia 1 was alright.Grandia 2 was a favorite of mine,god damn Millenia was hot.

Oh the memories. Grandia 2 was the shizzle

Just getting started with NHL10. I've already scored goals in ways I would never have done in last years version. It feels... better in overall, in lack of words.

Rented Lair.. With the added option of using the analog control instead of the sixaxis for the most part, the game really isn't as bad as people made it out to be.. Probably about halfway done and so far a 7/10 from me would seem accurate, but I guess I will have to see whether it gets better or just collapses.

Wow,nice man,I thought I was the only person to play and love that game.I love the writing in the beginning,so funny especially how the main guy talks to the kids haha!

@The Silent Man:I've been meaning to check that one out, especially since I heard the patch changes the controls.Seemed alright for what it is.Another game that was less great than expected that I enjoyed would be Heavenly Blade.First time through I didn't like it,then I recently rebought it and it was alot funner,if abit short and needs unlockable stuff, like costumes and whathaveyou.

I would be more interested in the new Halo thing if it was longer than six hours according to IGN,its too short.Granted its more of a glorified expansion but still.Hope its good.

I carved through the first hour and a half or so last night, and so far I don't think it's all everyone's made it out to be. It captures the original Halo feel quite well in some parts, with very dark, claustrophobic corridors that remind me of the first Flood level in Combat Evolved, plus it's got the freaking PISTOL back! They still screwed it up though... they put a silencer on it (lame), and it's not strong enough to kill a Brute with three or four headshots (also lame). And in the original Halo, my favorite strategy for killing Hunters was to dodge, then shoot them in the back with the pistol and kill them in one shot... which isn't possible here. On a side note, not being Master Chief makes Hunter encounters fucking SCARY. However, I CAN shoot a Jackal in the little slot in their sheld and then shoot them in the head from fifty yards away like I could before... It's nostalgia-riffic. Some of the old sound effects from the first Halo make an appearance too, which is cool. But it still doesn't entirely give you Combat Evolved "Feel".

Putting that aside though, the game is really fun so far. About my only complaint is that the voice acting is AWFUL, even though it was great in every other Halo game. But I'm really digging the whole nighttime setting and the flashbacks, plus the soundtrack is PHENOMENAL. Best music in any Halo game so far.

Am I the only one who thought the original Halo was shit single player?

Sure it was fun to drive the buggy but after exploring the same god damned untextured base for the 20th time I decided to use the disc as a coaster.

I'm now enjoying NHL 10 Be a GM-mode. Well sort of, I'm having too much fun fantasy drafting to really get much done.

Maybe it's just my PC-ness, but I found Halo completely shitty next to awesomeness like Crysis.

Halo was decent when it was released. Still it was way overrated compared to games like Half-life.

Heh, yes, meant Halo 2 or whatever I tried last rather than the very first one. Which is pretty crap too.

I also think the Halo series are way overrated, never liked the feel of the guns for istance. Well there were many things that just didn't stick with me.

The thing I hate the most about Halo is the damn "frog" jumping.

Halo is indeed overhyped I'd say,but not overrated. It helped usher in the mainstream FPS on consoles and helped rejuvinate a stagnating genre.Half-Life was my baby, played it to DEATH & all its mods.Games started aping it like crazy and occasionally a few found those specialty features, like Red Factions destruction.

Halo is notable for being so large with a HUGE feature being co-op & stellar multiplayer. And it looked and sounded great for the time(imho it still does),and best of all all one needed was an Xbox, not a suped up gaming rig.The production values were also great, and the whole experience clean and seamless.Another fantastic element that subsequent Halo games lost was that open-ended gameplay.Being able to assault an enemy base anyway you wanted was awesome.I'd take the snipe,my friends would drop me off up on a hill and they'd go berzerk in the warthog running through the base.

As good as other FPS are now, there is no denying what Halo has done for gaming, including better production values, focus on story(a novelty for a FPS or action games in general),excellent multiplayer, ingame loading,console/pc friendly design, regenerating health etc.Hell, even Crysis is coming to consoles, and as good as Half-Life 2 is,I personally enjoyed Halo 2 & Call of Duty 1+2 more, and does 4 even need mentioning. They are all more tightly focused intense moments of games that have come prior in some way shape or form.So sure, its overhyped anytime a new game comes out,but they are damn fine games with alot of afterlife once the main game is finnished.

Stylistically its ripping off Starship Troopers something awful, and gunplay/handling soundeffects vary in preference from preson to person,I honestly am not a fanboy. But I respect it and give it a chance. In fact I'll be playing this new one when I go home to visit my sister for her wedding, hotseat multiplayer FTW.

Halo was the very first FPS I ever played when I was just 8 years old back in 2001, and set the standard for every for me FPS since. To this day, nothing tops the original Halo in terms of style and open-endedness. It's a shame that open-endedness is now gone from the games, but Halo 2 and 3 both had some very big battles.

The Flood has always sucked though. Just saying.

I'm not going to read and comment to all the Halo comments, but I will say this...

Halo is the most overrated video game series, ever. Why you ask? Because you have the fanboys who love it to death and never play anything else. Then you have the extremists who hate it and say it's the worst game ever and they will never play it again. It's like the haters only exist because people love it. And the people who love it say all other games suck because of the haters. IMO this series doesn't deserve so much thought. It's a decent series that I have been playing from the biginning. I loved Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, Halo 3 was a bit of a let down but still fun, and I haven't played Halo 3: ODST yet because I have been really busy with work and hockey. I know a lot of complaints for people about ODST is it costs $70 and is only 6 hours long. For me, and I am not trying to brag or anything but, money is not a problem. I will spend $70 on a 40+ hour game and I will spend $70 on a 4 hour game. As long as they are good games and I enjoy playing them.

So yeah, Halo is overrated to both extremes of the spectrum.

rant over.\

So I finally got to sit down and invest some time into ODST. First off, the complaints. It takes way too much ammo to kill some of the bigger guys. You get that silenced rifle to start the game, and you have to use like 2 clips just to kill him and that's if all your shots land. Luckily, but unrealisticly, headshots are too easy. I was picking off grunts with the silenced pistol from much too far away. Sure, it made getting the achievement easy, but there is no way you should be able to do this.

As for the positives, well everything else. It's great to play a Halo game and not be able to throw a grenade across the entire map or be able to jump over buildings. Stealth! For the first time ever you have to be stealthy. It's weird trying to crouch and hide while doing a mission, but it sure is fun.

So yes, this is an basic Halo affair, but it's still more fun than Halo 3 IMO. Have yet to try Firefight mode...
