Yeah if you just get something involving a horse round the back of a phalanx then you've kicked its arse.

Do you auto-resolve your battles? Because you shouldn't, the computer often screws you up especially on higher difficulties. I presume you're fighting against Seleucid phalanxes, and Seleucids are pretty easy to break in the early game - Militia Hoplites and Levy Pikemen have low-low health, so send your own phalanxes in their fronts and your chariots around the sides. Concentrate on Antioch while posting a phalanx or three on all the bridges around it, and you can mop the Seleucids up in just a few turns.

Try Medieval 2, you might like that more. When playing as Egypt, you can call jihads ;)

I don't really like the real-time battles so I just auto-resolve. For whatever reason it's fine when I'm playing as a Roman faction, but Egypt is just blech.

Don't think the comp can run medieval 2, but maybe I'll give it a look.

Rome Total War is the exact sort of game which I'd love if I was actually any good at it. As it is I've yet to win a single battle, not counting the tutorial one.

Uh, really? What causes you to lose battles?

Borderlands = :dio:

Uncharted 2 online = :dio: but the waiting for a game to start gets too boring sometimes.

roughly 14-15 hoursyour first time through if you take some time to explore and try to find the treasures (on normal difficulty) .
It's longer than then Drakes's fortune.

Torchlight to be released on Steam in the very close future. Anyone else pre-ordered or interested in it?

On another note.
Oh yeeeaaaah! I just got Swedish PC Gamer. They have an 8 page long review of Dragon Age. Verdict: 95%

So, no dedicated servers for MW2 on pc + laptop ageing badly = pirating for singleplayer.

Sounds awesome, thanks for the reply. I look forward to one day being able to play it. And thanks also to DW for the impressions.

I checked out Torchlight and will probably get it, I like how its affordable, and seems to be of high quality. I like the art style, it reminds me of Fable 2 somewhat but darker and warmer with a few rpg traits and the obligitory Diablo dungeon crawling. Which I love, but is it multiplayer? All I've seen so far is solo play.

Bummer for CoD:MW2, dedicated serves make such a difference imho. I got so tired of crap matches on LIVE because of that. Granted even on dedicated servers its not always perfect either, but its an improvement.

This version is only singleplayer. They are already planning/continuing to make it into an MMO in the future. So all good mods and ideas etc that the community comes up with might actually end up in that product.
Did I mention they will release the level editor and make the game very mod friendly in the very near future? Oh yes they will.

Generally having no idea of military strategy except at the most basic of levels. The game's almost impossible to play on a laptop too, which doesn't help.

I play it on a laptop. Admittedly I have a 2.0 dual core, 2gb ram and a geforce 8600, though. Generally though, infantry in a line, archers behind, and cavalry at the flanks is enough to stop most opponents.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
CC AAAAAAAAA CC

Something like that. Have your archers auto fire (but don't use flaming arrows except against chariots and elephants), your infantry stead fast, and when the enemy charges your line, quickly sweep your cavalry in a pincer movement.

Yeah really Minty if you're playing against the comp you just need to get a line of solid infantry and your cavalry off at the side. The comp will just walk straight on to your infantry line then you just jog out behind them and sandwich them.

Ah that makes sense. I played it for a few and it was good enough. Reminds me of a better more attractive Fate. Mods could be really fun.

@DW: Lucky, from the demo alone it was awesome, can't wait to play the whole thing.

@Goat: Tell me how you like Far Cry 2, it looked fun and I've been curious seeing it for cheap at the local gamestore. Obviously its a different game, but it reminds me of when I scoped out Prince of Persia for my 360 a while back for cheap. Great game, Ubisoft is generally quality.

I played the Ratchet specific demo on the PSN last night, several times no less. Its the same level from E3 & the Tokyo Game Show, but it was great to be able to play it finally. Its beautiful and if you look around for stuff there are a few secrets scattered about. I liked customizing the basic pistol, and scating around on the Gravity Boots was a blast. Sniping with the crossbow was awesome too. Cool badguys/dialogue, I NEED this game along with Uncharted Dos.

Both Dragon Age and Modern Warfare 2 has leaked. People are getting banned for playing it too early already
