England played dreadfully. Can't wait 'til we play a 'proper' team...

From another forum:
Quote:
BBC World Cup Guidelines for commentary team
1 -Within 1 minute of kick off in the opening match (Germany v Costa Rica),the commentator must mention England.

2 - Regardless of what two teams are contesting the final, England have to be mentioned within the first minute.

3 - The commentator shall refer to the Falkland Isles in passing at some point in the match if England play Argentina.

4 - Whenever a hat trick is scored, comparisons with Geoff Hurst will be made within seconds of the third goal hitting the net.

5 - Should England wear their red jerseys, then '1966' should be
mentioned approximately 20 times.

6 - 1966 will be mentioned approximately 10 times a match, or only on 4 or 5 occasions for matches not involving England.

7 - Prior to the captain of the winning team lifting the trophy, the
commentator will mention Bobby Moore. And 1966.

8 - When Germany are playing, they must be referred to as being arrogant by the commentator on at least 14 occasions. This must refer to their style, their passing, their haircuts and their general footballing ability.

9 - Should England play Germany, mentions of Winston Churchill,
Dambusters, The Luftwaffe and Adolf Hitler will be compulsory. And 1966.

10 - All Scottish members of our commentary team must continue to refer to England as "we" and "us".

11 - We must ensure that nationlistic stereotypes are adhered to. Of course, the Germans are arrogant. The Spanish are bottlers, The Ivory Coast are fast but bad at defending, The Angolans are disorganised, The Argentinians are cheats and the French are only good because their best players play in England.

12 - For matches not involving England, we must only discuss the players that are playing in England. (eg - Holland v Argentina should be referred to as Van Nistelcunt v Cuntspo).

13 - The mythical "bulldog spirit" phrase should be used as often as possible.

14 - Each match involving England should begin with the phrase "England Expects."

15 - Should any player be involved in an injury that involves the loss of teeth, then references to Nobby Stiles and 1966 are compulsory.

16 - If in doubt, mention 1966.

17 - Praise all of the stunning new stadiums in Germany but emphasise that they lack the presence of Wembley, the spiritual home of football since 1966.

18 - Commentators should feel free to imitate the style of Kenneth
Wolstenholme, the hero of 1966.

19 - Should any team feature brothers playing together, then Jackie and Bobby Charlton should be mentioned.

20 - When England bow out after the first stage, we must emphasise that it is a massive blow to football and a serious loss to the World Cup.

 @ BrahmK

Holland played a very decent match, too bad Serbia-Montenegro wasn't as good as they were against Belgium and Spain in the qualifying rounds.

It's not that Serbia-Montenegro was good, it's that Belgium and Spain sucked even more...

Robben gave the best individual performance of the WC so far today. Hopefully he can recreate this, and Serbia can get their shit together, so we can once again see Argentina sent home crying like little girls in the first round. :P

Zad: Stop being negative. It's been proven time and time again that England play badly against bad teams, and well against good ones. I can't wait until we get someone better so our lazy players will bo forced into playing competently.

Portugal beat Angola 1-0. average performance by the team, it was kinda annoying when there was one angola guy alone with 5 defenders and they never got the ball, instead allowing him to hold the ball and wait and pass to a newly-arrived team mate. had Angola's attack been more organized, we could've taken a few shots at our goal.

Portugal's goal was nice, Figo did an awesome dribble (passes the ball to one side, overtakes the defender on the other and regains control of the ball) and sent it perfectly for Pauleta to score.

Figo is old but he's still got game!

I was surprised at how well Figo played. Ever since Euro 2004 I thought he was in decline, but today he looked a real force. It was frustrating how Angola really didn't seem to have any ambition. They weren't concentrating for the first 5 minutes and conceded, and after that it looked like they were happy to keep it at 1-0 and not bother even trying to equalise.

+1

i think the goal looked very good but the defender had no pace at all. It looked as though figo had lost 5 years and gained his pace back; the defender was that slow.

Their preformance was like that of Englands (but not as bad). Portugal should have finished the game off in the first half but like England found themselves unable to get that goal which would have given them a confort zone and allowed the players to relax a bit more.

maybe if we had a decent striker we could've scored more goals.

Ronaldo still hit the crossbar and Maniche forced the keeper to make a great save, that'd kill the game (and make for a better show), but still, 3 points.

Ronaldo was kinda disappointing, looked like he lost his morale after his header hit the crossbar.

Robben

Austrilia Japan, good game but one Japan should have won. Good to see Tim Cahill scoring for his country like he does for Everton

naah Japan wasn't dominant at all in the second half and when they let the game slip in less than 10 minutes..the aussies deserved a tie or even a 2-1 victory but i agree, Japan didn't deserve 3-1

Japan had many opertunities to take a two goal lead but squandered them all. They played good counter attacking football but their final ball was very poor and many of thier attack were just broken down as soon as they got into the final third. Its their own fault they didn't go on to win the match. But full credit to the aussies, untill the last ten mins they never looked like scoring, but somehow changed it round.

And i think the chech's just threw their hat in the ring, an excellent preformance agaisnt a sub par US team.

The Australia Japan game was the most entertaining so far in my opinion.

I was a bit disappointed with Ghana. A strong side that let themselves down with poor defending.

It will be good to see Rosicky at Arsenal next season 8) but it's a shame that we won't see anymore of Koller. That guy r0x0rs.
