FUCKING WOOT

I rather like it, myself.
IMO, better than Suspiria.

I wouldn't go that far, hehe. How I long to se the third part of this trilogy... I wonder whn it will be available over here.

I wasn't aware it was out of production yet.
Regarding inferno vs. Suspiria, I thought that the surrealism that Argento was shooting for was better defined.
The sets, colors (of course) and the general feeling of being caught in a dream-world surpass that of Suspiria, IMO, of course, which is in and of itself a beautifully done film.
Have Deep Red, Tenebre, Cat 'o Nine Tails, Suspiria, Opera, Inferno and Four Flies on Grey Velvet.
Tenebre and Inferno being the most to my liking.

According to wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Third_Mother ) it's finished and has been premiered at a few festivals. The "critical reception" section on that page has me slightly concerned:

Quote:
Many reviewers expressed satisfaction that The Third Mother was not as poor as many of Argento's post-Opera films

That's a ringing endorsement

It is very difficult to choose between Suspiria and Inferno, but I'm very commited to the former. The opening sequence clinches it, I think, along with the soundtrack. Four Flies is one of a very tiny number of Dario films I haven't seen, actually. I guess of the ones you have I'd put Opera and Deep Red a long way ahead of Tenebre, which I don't think I get, really. His films are best when you can forget about the terrible dubbing and wooden acting, which that one never really lets me do.

Also in case you haven't seen it I would recommend Stendahl Syndrome... IMO by far the best thing he's done since his classic period.

meh, what do critics know?
We'll see I guess... Argento is fairly hit and miss, though, so who knows.
Never saw Stendahl Syndrome, thanks for the rec.
Tenebre was my first Argento flick, so that may be a factor, but I just like the general feel of the movie.

I take it you are a Bava fan as well?
Got Black Sunday, The Whip and the Body, Blood and Black Lace, Bay of Blood (disappointment), and Planet of the Vampires.

My whole family was going WTF when Crowe got on the train after shooting everyone. Just, why?

Because Christian Bale captured him, fair and square. it's like crowe had an obligation to get on the train.

Kind of a Bava fan, although my tastes in horror tend towards the more gruesome end, so when I was exploring Italian horror I reached the Argento junction and chose the Fulci/Deodato/Bianchi road rather than the Bava one, haha. Of those you list I have Bay of Blood, which I enjoy a lot. Love the insect-studier. And I saw Black Sunday at a film festival- it was kind of ruined for me because a) it was put on at 7am after I'd spent since midnight in the same cinema watching very violent zombie films and b) because the audience was a long way from being prepared to accept the drop down in effects quality, and useless dubbing you have to make room for with these types of film. So the whole cinema was really ridiculing it, which was unfair and rather phillistine, and it kind of spoiled anything I would have got out of it.

Very nearly ordered Planet of the Vampires off Amazon a while ago, not sure why I didn't. Will probably go for it in the near future.

The Lookout - great movie about a guy who has his mind ruined in a car accident but then finds himself again with violent results. i think my english class is starting to rub off on me because is tarted thinking of it as a mythological "going through a trial to find yourself in the wilderness" or smth :X

Fuck, I'm gonna spend a lot of money on visits to the cinema in the coming weeks. "No Country for Old Men" just came to Spain, "There Will Be Blood" and "Sweeney Todd" are coming soon and maybe I'll watch "Cloverfield" too. By the way, have anyone of you watched "The Bucket List"? I mean, with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman (holy shit!) it can't be that bad, can it?

"Bridge to Terabithia" was a nice surprise, a surprisingly dark children movie that probably won't be fully understood by its target audience.

Not running away when you have the clear chance = captured fair and square? And Bale was dead... I clearly have no sense of honour.

Repeat viewing won't help.

Either:
a] make up your own interpretation
b] read someone else's online

then:
c] act like your smarter than everyone else because you 'get' it.

Gee Rad, isn't it obvious? Donnie found a cyclical loop in time. Gee, didn't u get that? You must not be as intelligent as I am.

I saw the new fucking Rambo yesterday with me mum. Mainly as a joke, & to make her sit through it. :D Horrible movie with very little plot, which was a good thing (plot just makes these blood bath action movies even worse). The action was pretty good though, I was entertained through most of it.

It sucked. I dunno if I posted it in this thread, but yeah...the only fun part was being like "yeah! Rambo!" when he did something cool.

Phenomena- Damn, this film seems so crap for the first 30 minutes (Iron Maiden and Motorhead in a Dario film? No thanks) but then inexplicably becomes awesomeness distilled. I think when 14 year old Jennifer Connolly summons all the flies down on her school was when the tide started to turn. So at the end all the stuff that sucked while you were watching it become part of its quirks. At the end it turns from being this crazy directionless supernatural romp and turns into a Fulci style gore freakout complete with SPOLIERS* a chimp hacking off Daria Nicolodi's face with a razor blade and a deformed child being attacked by a million flies*SPOILERS

I'd recommend this film to all but it needs a lot of patience and acceptance off its many glaring flaws.

It is more fun than Suspiria but certainly not better; not even in the same league.

By "more fun", you mean it isn't a drawn-out, crappily-acted pile o'shite that only lasts as long as you think the soundtrack is creepy?

No, by "more fun" I mean it should appeal more to people that struggle with films that aren't exactly what they are used to and need some kind of wacky novelty value if they are to try something new.

The Heartbreak Kid - You know, I think this is the first Ben Stiller film I've ever seen that I actually found funny in places. My brain must be decaying or something.
