Definitely try to read the books, but honestly I imagine the first book will last a couple of seasons in show time. George has already stated that while the core of the story is intact, the show will take a few liberties for the sake of consuming time (think filler). Of course this is done with his approval, but if you watch the 15 minute segment that was recently released on youtube, you can already see small changes.

Also, I like the fact that they do not appear to be shying away from the books graphic content. Ned wasnt fucking around with that deserter:

Swing/splat/fountains of blood :D

Nope, the first season = the first book. Those who have watched the first six episodes have said that the pace is extremely quick rather than filler filled- the book itself is the shortest of the series but also the most concise by far. Tons happens in it.

Do you know if they are happy with the result ?

Yep, responses have been very positive, with a few complaints here and there (some say the first two episodes in particular have a pretty rushed paced, and there have been a couple complaints about some of the actors, particularly the guy who plays Drogo and the girl who plays Dany). But overall the reviews are very encouraging.

First episode was good. As someone that has read the books, it is a bit harder to look at it without a critical eye because of my knowledge of all the additional material that is left out, but considering how it was done I was quite pleased. I actually think the Drogo character fit very well, and Dany played her part great. If I had an issue on that end, it was with her brother Viserys. Dude just seemed off to me.

Read the book as well, and just saw the first episode. It was great, I'm pleased to see it being harsh, mature and without concessions, just as the book is. The actors are all great, especially Dany's role : the girl (Emilia Clarke) had a hell of a scene to play, and she did remarkably.
I'm really pleased with the episode, I can't wait for the next !

Finally got around to watching the first episode. Vaguely dissatisfied, but I'm not sure why - the casting is great, for one. Doubt it could be done much better than this. Looking forward to more.

I thought the acting was kind of shit at times compared to other HBO shows. I'm also disappointed with the actor they cast to play Jon Snow.

How so? I thought he was one of the better ones. Also, I think we have to keep in mind this was basically a pilot episode, so the quality should improve over time. Looking foward to the next one.

Just saw episode 2, still great so far, despite this part of the book not being the most interesting. I'm in love with little Arya, the girl's good. And so is Tyrion.

Yeah this is good stuff. They already cleared a second season so that's good news. Hopefully they can build a decent following since the show is probably very costly to make.

Second episode was an improvement. Looking foward to more, and glad they pushed foward with the second season.
