I've always though this forums was pretty cool, except when Eyesore and Zad left, it got lame for like 2 weeks there because those two together probably contribute as much to the forum as like everyone else combined lol

OM has got a point - the forum used to be different, in the Valefor/WinterIsComing/The Immortal Emokid days. Different, yes, I'm not sure whether they are actually better.

Certainly, more younger users have joined, and I wouldn't say the overall quality of the forum has gone down THAT much.

As for staying on topic, that's one of the reasons I came back to this place - few other places are so lenient, and it's great.

Yes it was very different, and I'm tempted to say better. But I don't really see where the blame can go. Most online forums I have visited have had a tipping point where they start to become stale and tired real fast.

When Gast1 became Misha. That's when things went downhill.

And Noodles, why'd'you think I came back? I couldn't bear the thought of all you poor people stuck alone without either of us.

Good one. I think you are baiting me. :D Hey, I try to talk about non-metal music here every now and then.

No, nothing against you. There was a brotherhood in the old days, true, but it hasn't gone away. A few of the people have changed, that's all. Takes getting used to. Obviously OM's having a hard time adjusting...

1. MR forums once was a really cool place (the first 6 months or so). Call me a stick-in-the-mud, but I miss the time before the bunch of mediocritists, forum-assholes and post count whores started to dilute every thread. (Über-asshole WIC at least was funny because he constantly made a fool out of himself, the followers are just bloody stupid and lame).
There is certainly still a lot of good posts here but it is annoying to read through some 10 verbal farts before finding something memorable.
Same for the reviews. In those good old times MR supected at competitors because they recruited stuff from their message boards. Well, you know what happened then.

If you're going to say such a thing, make a list, otherwise you're just accusing everyone that isn't you of being a *insert pretentious insult such as peripatetic or mediocritist here.*

So put up or nail your mouth shut.

I'm trying to understand what he means by the reviews, too? By my estimation the reviews have only gotten better! Shall I go and quote some winners from the "early days"? Or is this a "they don't review enough black metal" sort of thing?

I never had issues with Winter Is Coming, I kind of liked him, though he was a dick at times for the simple sake of being a dick. And TIE? He never left. As for Valefor, the dude was a prick, let's be honest, he was and the board is better off without him.

This has certainly caused a drop in actual music discussion. No offense to the young people, but young music fans generally care less about bands these days simply because their options are endless!! You can download anything you want at any time of day! This new era of fans do hit-and-run listens. They hear about a band, download it, give it some listens, declare is good or bad, and then they move on to the next band. That's why the discussion of music is minimal and vague, these fans just don't know the music. They don't fall in love with it, listen to it over and over and over again like some of us did. It doesn't sink in the same way.

They're missing out, too.

Yeah, it's cool to go off topic, but when it immediately goes off topic that's kind of annoying. Once a topic is "talked out" then going off topic is cooler, but instantly talking about the different ways to say "shit" in different languages is annoying.

I'll have you know that I don't download. If I hear a band's music over the net it's either Myspace, the band's website, label website or something like that. Occasionally I'll get someone to send me a new album which I'll most probably buy. Such as right now I want to be sent the new Deicide.

Leee is much more of a prick than Valefor ever was. I agree about the music though, there's so much good stuff out there, and I have so little money, that a lot of good stuff falls by the wayside.

And agreed about the last bit. Things can get OTT...

I'm here for the beer and the bitches.. :?

Actually I post here to shamelessly exhibit my privacy, spout unwarranted elitism, insult people without necessarily having to fight them, post pseudo-philosophical rants when I'm wasted and get a good laugh watching simians bashing the part of the world I live in (EDIT - That will be Europe (Denmark)).

Oh, and something about learning about new bands and stuff...
