yeah :D MiniDisc was somewhat a failure, i did knew a guy once who couldn't listen to anything but MiniDisc "...and those ppl who listen to cd's are idiots!" he thought :D
And i never got the idea about the UMD-movies, it's only supported by the PSP, which is almost non-existing in the homes of the consumers, and who the fuck wants to see movies on such a small screen?!?!
I still too early to say anything about the Blue-ray, i think. However, there is one improvenment over the UMD, it is not produced for the ps3 only, so there is a greater demand

And thats the thing; if the Blu-Ray fails, PS3 is kind of fucked. Its high price and a lot of its technology is based on the fact that its Blu-Ray; what happens if HD wins or both fail? The PS3 will either have to lower its price substantially (and lose even more money per PS3 sold) or get rid of the Blu-Ray elements altogether. Sony is already losing a lot of money on the PSP; if the PS3 fails, I think it might be Sony's last foray into videogames for a while.

Oh, and for all you Zelda fans: Twilight Princess has been getting excellent reviews. Fuck ya, I can't wait to play this game.

Its also far cheaper than the Playstation 3, which is a big bonus in their favour.

Actually if you think about a little bit it is not cheaper than the ps3!
If you take on the large harddrive and add on the $199 HD DVD Player for the 360 (equivalence of blu-ray) then you basically have a $599 xbox 360.
Not to mention the fact that online gaming is free fom sony while you have to pay $50 per year to be microsoft online with the xbox 360 and if you already have an account for the regular xbox; guess what, that one will not work you will need another :)

All that being said; I have the 360 and love it, but I would probably eventually get the other two systems but I am not fighting the holiday/underproduction headaches that i went thru last year.

basically a loaded xbox and PS3 are both $599 with $59 games. The only difference will be in the online community, which obvious microsoft was far superior to that of Sony on the old consoles, of course the difference is that the sony is free of charge!

We will see how the PS3 online system works soon enuff i guess?

I haven't read any of the earlier posts because I'm in a hurry. Anyway, the Xbox has the worst game developers, Wii has Nintendo (Smash Brothers/Metroid/Zelda), not sure if Nintendo produced all those games, anyway. The PS3 has the best developers. The game developers are the most important thing to me, even though the Wii is going to have a totally new style of gameplay I believe it's going to get old pretty fast, I think I'd rather play the new Zelda with a traditional gaming pad than some stupid new remote control.

The PS3 is my big favourite because it's more like a PC, with deep stories like the Metal Gear Solid games and the best RPG games on the market like Final Fantasy, mixed with the console-style fun gameplay.

i saw a preorder receipt for the ps3 on sale on ebay, the winning bid was $3000+ when i saw it (auction since removed).

some people take this kind of thing way too seriously.
"but azrael they're rich!"
no they're not, if they were they'd be doing a line of coke while driving their ferrari instead of playing videogames.

EDIT - http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6161933.htm ... ws;title;1
holy shit

I think the PSP, much like the Nintendo 64, is another example of how (contrary to popular belief) brand recognition alone does not sell a gaming system. I remember how, two years ago, everybody predicted the PSP would totally crush the DS once it was released because of the Playstation brand name. Only for the exact opposite to happen. And yeah, watching movies or TV shows on such a small screen is not fun unless you're on a long car ride (after all, does anybody still buy portable TVs?). Much like how a lot of people thought the Nintendo 64 was going to overtake the PS1 and become the greatest thing since sliced bread (admittedly, even I predicted this at the time) because of the Nintendo brand name. And we all know that it never even came close to achieving this.

Interestingly enough, this Christmas I'm actually forgoing the three "next-gen" systems in favor of a DS (with Super Mario 64). :dio:

hm, i've been checking IGN Wii (http://wii.ign.com) and there are a few reviews available already. they're kinda worrying, the only company that got the control system 100% right was nintendo (with Zelda: TP). hope this changes soon.

and i hope they don't force the control system on every game...

I think what Sony's doing wrong is that they're putting so much into technology (MP3's, blue-ray, etc) that they're neglecting one vastly important aspect of a gaming system - namely, uhhhh, "games." By the way, something funny: because the PS3 is so expensive, people are literally getting shot for it! Much like how crackheads shoot random people for crack money.

This whole PS3 launch thing has left me feeling really disgusted. Out of the sixteen people who bought PS3s at my closest Future Shop (a technology store), 15 admitted that they were going to sell them. I feel quite bad for all those games who waited in line to actually play the system. Its one crazy motherfucking world out there.

I'm not kidding you. One person actually killed another person so he could take his money and buy a PS3.

On another note, I've been looking at some of the VG message boards and it appears the fanboys are in full force once again with their, "Wii is da shit! PS3 is gay!!!" and vice versa rants.

Yeah i've read the worrie hopefully it's simply because of the "new" factor. I also read that games won't always be using the ne control system depending on the situation.
