I still wonder WHY they show hot chicks in the audience all the time in Dane Cooks videos. I was watching videos from legends like Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld and others, and the camera almost never focused the audience. Only the comedian. Sometimes, they showed close-ups of the audience, but they were always regular people.

I'm not saying Dane Cook fans in here like him because of the hot chicks, but come on, that has to be some sort of marketing idea. Why keep showing them every 10 seconds. It doesn't make the guy funnier, does it? I bet some idiot-thinking teenager started liking Dane Cook by being influenced by the hot chicks. Come on, you cant say that image does NOT affect some people. It does. Maybe not smart people like yourselves, but there are plenty of teen-idiot-brains out there begging to be brainwashed.

That being said, I must admit that the hot chick thingy does NOT make him less funnier or even "hatable". Overrateness maybe does. For some people. I don't hate Dane Cook, I even laughed at the Mortal Kombat "finish him" situation after a guy smells a stinky pussy but besides that, I think his repertoire is very dull.

It's easier not to be put off by a band's fans because when you're listening to the album you can just pretend they don't exist, but when you're watching a stand-up comedian perform it's generally live, meaning they're like right there oh em ge.

There is no difference. Let's not start coming up with retarded theories here. So, you go an see a comedian live, and you hate it because of the lame fans in the crowd. Yet they recorded that show for a DVD. You buy the DVD and you can enjoy it, because it's not live? Pffft.

I dunno, I guess I just think that the audience is much more involved with a comedians performance than they are with a bands.

Yep, I think noodles has hit upon a valid point. Comedy is direct language and communication- frequently it is almost like a conversation with the audience. So, I think it is perfectly relevant to say that a comedian has a closer relationship with their audience than a musician does. Be more civil to him, assface.

Dane Cook is a comedian for those of us that like ridiculous jokes. Seriously. TONS of people think I'm fucking hilarious, my friends try to convince me to do stand-up; but many, many people also think I'm totally not funny. It's the same thing with someone like Dane Cook. His shit is ridiculous, and coming from angles few comedians come from.

I guess you're right. It IS ridiculous.I watched the youtube vid noodles posted. Didn't find it funny AT ALL. I mean, the guy spends like 4 minutes on how we throw up at parties. Making noises. Dull as hell.

But hey, did you notice the crowd? I bet there isn't ONE PERSON in the crowd who's above 25. Notice the close-ups, 90% of the time is really HOT chicks laughing their asses off and the guy isn't saying nothing special. I smell marketiiiing ... It's like that Seinfeld joke about the commercial with the gorgeous bikini model next to a 26-set box of tools. The guy is just there thinking "Hey ... if SHE is next to the box of tools ... and if IIII had that box of tools ... I wonder if she .... I'm gonna get that box of tools !!!". Is this what young boys are thinking ? Hey, if that hot chick is laughing at Dane ... and maybe if IIIII laugh at Dane ...

I'm just mentioning the hot chicks in the audience thing beacuse I like searching youtube for standup vids and the only vids that showed frequent close-ups of people in the audiente were Dane Cook vids.

I was watching George Carlin's "Complaints and Grievances", man there are some real good parts in it. Watch him talk about traffic accidents : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mG4UWCfhmEw

Part 5 is also hilarious : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ir-5rWOSNk

Just discovered this thread. I agree that Dane Cook is really not funny and that his audience is retarded. And I like observing humor. Speaking of George Carlin:
http://www.flabber.nl/archief/018294.php
This actually blows Cook's party observation suckfest out of the water. It's consitent to one theme while not being boring, it's intelligent and it's actually funny. And the fucking crowd doesn't scream all the time.

just out of interest: Misha, have you seen Wim Helsen yet? he's a 'mainstream' stand up comedian/cabaretist but i find his absurd humor and the intelligence he uses in his conferences pretty funny.

Works fine for me too. Funny, but I still prefer the "Complaints And Grievances" gig. The part where he mocks grown men who refer their fathers as "Mah-Daddy" is so funny. And people who send pictures of their kids in Christmas. "This is Lou-Anne, she's 12 now." . FUCK LOU-ANNE !!

I watched just for laughs last night and Dane Cook was on it. They didn't show "hot chicks" every two seconds.
