Notice that there is a correlation between socio-economic class and...

...virtually everything.

I come from a poor family, live on a shitty student loan and yet i'm not obese, a drug addict or a criminal. There must be something wrong with me.

anywho... how is the food culture in America in reality?
You always hear how your food sucks and how unhealthy it is. My dad went to America this summer to work and he absolutely hated the food there, since it was impossible to get non-fried/fat food, and since he wasn't able to get danish food, i guess... on "resturants" that is, which i pointed out to him, it's not necessarily how it ppl eat in private.

really? when i went to Chicago for a month in 2006, there was always something good to eat, relatively healthy or otherwise.

6"2, 171 pounds. I jog and work out all the time, only eat healthy food, no candy and stuffs. Would like to weigh more though, but an arm injury I've had since prevents me from gaining much weight on the upper body. Staying in good shape is essentially my second biggest "hobby" after listening to music and while on the subject, I just began my studies to become a PE teacher.

America's food culture is so bizarre it's not even funny. We consume a lot of fatty fast food, soda pop, etc. But at the same time, we're ridiculously obsessed with what's "healthy" and what isn't. So you often have people going to two extremes. You have people who basically live off "junk food" (McDonald's, Burger King, Hershey's Chocolates, Coca Cola, etc) but you also have people who go to the other extreme and are so bent on "eating healthy" that they'll never eat meat, never eat chocolate, never eat ANYTHING with a little fat (even though a certain amount of fat/cholesterol is necessary for your survival as a human being), and they're basically just as sick and unhealthy as the people who eat nothing but junk food.

It's very difficult to find that healthy middle ground.

My advice for those of you that are obese; Stop eating shit with high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils, stop eating at fast food joints PERIOD, start eating whole grains, sprouts -- anything green or leafy, etc.

As for meat, only eat animals that eat healthy foods themselves. Free-range poultry and cattle is perfect.

Trust me on this. You'll live longer.

Seeing as Diet Coke is clearly the black sperm of a demon (too weak to be the devil himself) I can't imagine how unpleasant that must be.

It gives people an excuse to drink Diet Coke now... 'cuz it's "good for them." Even though it's still probably just as bad for you.

You're absolutely correct on everything you've written above. I've been reading so much on the subject of eating for health and losing weight and all of them point to what you wrote. You have to avoid sugar in any form at all costs. Plus regular exercise of some sort everyday. + water water water.

But how are we supposed to not eat sugar? My blood sugar drops when I don't eat or drink something sugary throughout the day. And I sometimes eat just because I don't like the feeling I get when it's low. One of the main reasons I can't lose weight. I just simply can't stand hunger because of this blood sugar thing.

Reverse-osmosis water, if you can.

I'll have to do a little more research to solve these problems. Unless Raven already has the answer...

Well that is a whole different subject. You're situation would certainly qualify as special medical circumstances. Therefor, I would suggest talking to your doctor before you engage in any weight loss program / diet. You have special need that need to be met first.

I'm 5'8"-5'9" and about 175 lbs. It sounds like kind of a lot, but I have a naturally husky build so I don't look that fat. I could definitely stand to lose a few though...I'm doing some amount of dieting. I don't eat candy or basically anything sweet anymore and I don't really drink anything besides water and some gatorade. I'm also working out four days a week, although I'm out of shape a little because I did nothing all summer. I lost quite a bit of weight and got in MUCH better shape at the beginning of this year by doubling up on working out 4 days a week and playing lacrosse almost every day. I'm out of shape now, and it feels horrible not to be able to do things I used to because before, it seemed like I was improving all the time but now I can tell that I've gone back a few steps. Plus, I'm visibly fatter as well...not gonna let that happen again.

I'm pretty skinny... 6"1' and weighing in at 130 lbs... I'm pretty weak.

I never had to worry about being fat. It seems like no matter what I eat, it won't put any weight on me. I guess it helps that I somehow manage to eat healthy and stay away from fast food and sodas and stuff.

But I've been working out and riding a bike and such recently. I fell out of the habit for a couple months and it's astounding how much one simple bike ride drains me now. You don't really have to be fat to be out of shape, I guess.

Go by calories, not sugar. Of course, everyone needs a certain amount of sugar, but you can get it from bread and fruit. Eat more fruit, less obviously sugary stuff. And fellow alcoholics, switch to wine. Sangria with fresh orange juice.

I was overweight as a child, and when I reached highschool, I developped extreme anxiety which turned into an eating disorder. I was and still am 5'0"weighed about 145, went down to 99. Then I got over the disorder on my own within a year and a bit, and now I weigh a healthy 110lbs.

To keep in shape, I go jogging every morning. Although I've been eating terrible this summer. When school starts and training for Cross Country starts up, i'll be back on track.

woo.

Anyway, I like boys with a little meat on 'em. So if you're chubby, don't worry about it too much :P

Indeed, very true, although even free range beef isn't great for you. I once heard the rule that if it runs, swims or flies, it's good to eat. So, instead of beef, eat bison, which is about ten times more delicious to boot.

Well now... I wasn't actively being offensive and threatening the slightly more rotund members of the forum. So please don't take it like that.

And of course I don't approve of your years (years?) of self-loathing and misery, been there myself for different reasons. Was just pointing out, somewhat facetiously, the upside.

Of course I wasn't serious...no more than you were in your declaration that fat people should be shot. And yes, years. Four years of bullying, plus the aftermath, which was not pleasant.
