what? dude, i know Real are your rivals, but Raul is an excellent player. but yeah, with Fernando Torres and Villa up front...

one thing: Raul was an excellent player. He can be another time a great player. But not now. The same happens with Ronaldo, for example.
I'm not against all Madrid players, I think Casillas is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Sergio Ramos is a good defender that can play as lateral or central.
But now at this moment, Villa, Torres, Luis Garcia or Reyes are in better form and can help better the team than Raul or Joaquin, for example.

Sad sad game England played. Peter Crouch couldn't head in a single ball (except the one he made). Lampard missed all his shots as well. Rooney was outplayed by the defense of Trinidad & Tobago. Hey, and how about them Ecuadorians?

Pfft. Why bother when it's T&T? If you don't need to play at full stretch to beat a team, there's no point in doing so. Put in the absolute minimum amount of work that's necessary: Pretty much our ideology over here :)

I'll keep saying it: There's no way to judge a football team until it's played against harder teams than the ones we've played against. The last great team we played was Argentina, about 2 games after we drew pitifully with Northern Ireland. Everyone was talking about how crap England were then as well, but beating you guys turned out to be pretty easy in the end.

The bookies diagree, Englands odds have shortened since the win against T&T, (as have Argentinas and spains) http://www.oddschecker.com/betting/mode ... /sid/10062

I'm severely tempted to put a lot of money on Argentina, just to alleviate the pain I would feel if the worst did happen and they won it.

Come on Serbia!

(note: I like Argentina and Argentinians a lot, I just want their football team to do badly :P )

COMPUTER PROGRAM TO WATCH THE WORLD CUP:
(ESPN and ABC show the games)

on my crappy internet it's kinda slow, but my friends don't complain.

a full game is about 250MB, for those of you with traffic limitations.

Hmm, well done Sweden, although I'd have been much happier to have seen a 0-0 draw.

The Guardian's minute-by-minute commentary of England v T&T is among the worst pieces of sports journalism I've ever read in my life, but then all was explained when I noticed the writer of it had a Scottish sounding name. It was all like "Lolz England are being outplayed by T&T here." Makes you wonder how some of these people get jobs at respectable newspapers :?

Yeah, we all know English journos are free of such bias.

Favourite media comment so far:

Motson (Brazil-Croatia game): the referee's Mexican, let's hope he's better than the Mexican who handled the England game.

More to inevitably follow.

Motson doesn't count as a sports journalist. Plus, the referee for the England game was undoubtedly crap. Peter Crouch being yellow carded for "Footballing whilst tall", as someone I can't remember said.

I refer to the analysis you will find in otherwise respectable newspapers. It's 90% cretinous and self-absorbed whining. People for instance suggesting that the T&T scoreline was flattering. Hmm... 70% possession, fuck knows how many shots on goal... yes 2-0 sure is flattering to T&T, if nobody else.

Aagh, I hate football. Not good for my mental wellbeing.

Pffft, I just find the idea of an Englishman getting pissed off by media bias in international football laughable. :P

I'm not pissed off by bias. I'm pissed off by, on this particular occasion, the inability of British football journalists to even recognise the positives from England's first two games. Here football writing is characterised either by grossly misplaced euphoria, or grossly mispaced pessimism. Here we are seeing way too much of the latter. And I'm sure you'll appreciate that it's that one I find the more irritating, being an England supporter.

the media seem to hate eriksson, they're doing everything they can to get him kicked out.

truth be told he could have done better here and there, but all round he's a world class coach.

(or maybe i only like him because he's the one that brought Benfica to their last Champion's League final)

6 - 0 ARGENTINA!!! They balled up the Serbians. The second goal was by far the most amazing play in the world cup thus far. A taquito by Saviola to get the shot in by Cambiasso. What a game. T'was amazing.

OMFG! i hate to say it but Argentina just scared the shit out of every other team at the tournament, i can't believe how good they were. All of the favourites are going to have to hit top gear pretty soon.

Every time I switched on to that game all it was showing was the repulsive image of that fat, egotistical cokehead Maradonna acting like a buffoon. So he used to be a great player... please can we stop seeing him on the TV now?

brilliant game by Argentina, best game so far. if they keep playing like this i see little serious competition by other teams, maybe Italy or England, heck, maybe even Holland. I took Brazil out of my list of teams that will make it far.

Indeed. Jaw dropping game by Argentina.

Is it only me, or has this World Cup been awesome so far? Many great games, lots of goals, including some really brilliant ones. By the way, Ivory Coast just scored a incredible goal against the Netherlands.
