Portugal often plays with a single striker.

the problem is Pauleta waits for the ball and rarely comes after it or runs back to pick it up.

Nuno Gomes = average = better than Pauleta

Great show put up by Australia and Brasil today. I see Australia going through in their group. And, Brasil is not invincible, as everyone makes them out to be. Ronaldo didn't do anything but cry all game.

Yeah, I expct Australia to go through now. Croatia have a lot of ability, but just not enough in front of goal to get the result they need in the third game.

Btw, France seem to be getting their shit together against S. Korea.

Spoke too early, France ended up tying against the tricky little asians. France will have a hard time getting through their group now, since if either Switzerland or Togo win, France will have to beat Togo. As for Ronaldo, you can do well and still whine about everything. Take Crespo as the prime example.

I was told he's being put in because he needs only two more goals to beat the current record for most goals in a world cup. Any validity to that?

from Wikipedia:
Most goals scored: Gerd Müller (West Germany 1970-1974), 14

can't find his total world cup goals, though.

I think he's playing badly on purpose to lull everyone else into a false sense of security.

Not really, but it would be cool if he was.

uooohhh... What a wonderful midfield, the spanish one... Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Cesc... and Iniesta in the bench, and Senna for defensive play.

Yesterday, against Tunez, Spain demostrate that can suffer and win too, altough starting losing.

Perhaps Spain will not win the championship, but they're making all spanish happy with that play.

England is looking pretty good in the first half against Sweden. Cole had a great goal.

England was really really shaky when Sweden got dead balls...

it was Joe Cole carrying the team around :/

[rant]
FUCKING GREEDY CABLE TV BASTARDS!!

certain foreign channels (french M6 and another one) are transmitting many world cup matches, open signal and shit. but in Portugal, many of the game rights went to subscription channel SporTV.

when the word spread about M6 showing the games, people started switching to that, and you know what the cable guys did?! THEY BLOCKED M6!!

bastards!!

people paid for the cable service that included M6, and without warning the channel is cut off, so maybe some people will pay the extra fee for SporTV. FUCK THAT, AND FUCK SPORTV!

fucking money-grabbing jerks. i don't have and will never have SporTV.
