England is looking pretty good in the first half against Sweden. Cole had a great goal.

Joe Cole's goal was amazing. Owen is a pussy, what kind of injury is that? Idiot.

If England matches up with Brazil or Argentina in the later stages there's gonna be a disaster.

Assuming Brazil and Argentina both win their groups (which is likely) then we can't possibly meet the former until the semis and the latter until the final I think.

We won't get past Holland in the quarters at this rate, but I still think the team will move up a gear when it matters.

Actually, that should read "I still HOPE the team CAN move up a gear".

indeed, Joe Cole scored a great goal. a fine way to crown a very good performance.

today: PORTUGAL VS MEXICO
we only need to tie to top our group.

if we win and angola win i think Angola can go through, which would be nice. both Mexico and Angola will have 4 points, with the final decision deppending on goal difference (since they tied their game 0-0).

i have a fancy little world cup chart, all you do is insert the scores and it updates the tables and shit automatically. want me to upload it?

funny football news:

Football Manager player applies for the job as Middlesbrough manager

he's probably just joking but it's quite funny. loved the chairman's reply.

I was impressed by England the first half, they kept it together. Then the second half came around... I hope to see Angola go through, so if Argentina tie or beat Holland we go through and play Angola. :D

2-1!! WE'RE HAVIN' GUACAMOLE TONIGHT!!

hm, shaky defense (we miss Jorge Andrade), but good work in midfield. Tiago, Simao, Maniche and Figo are looking good today. Ricardo did some very nice saves.

hope Nuno Gomes comes on for the second half.

nice, 3 games 3 victories.

Simão played a great game, showed we can count on him.

it'd be really ironic if now Argentina lost vs the Netherlands, and we got them in the 1/8. i mean, the Netherlands are no pushover, but they're "less difficult" than Argentina.

Argentina is playing with a almost complete B-team(they don't want star players to get injuries i've heard) and Netherland is playing without Robben, Van Bronckhorst and 2 others, because they all have a yellow card.

i hope it'll be 2-0 for Argentina

Ghana wins 2-1. Bruce Arena needs to go.

Fuck... I'm impressed with Portugal so far.. 3 games, 3 victories, 5 goals scored against 1... and we played with Mexico without 5 of our starters.. and now it's the Netherlands, they have one the youngest teams, but atlist we avoided Argentina.. (I really don't know if that is actually a good thing or not)

What starting team would choose for the 1/8s game?

After Argentina destroys Mexico in the Round of 16 we'll have a hard time with either Sweden or Germany, and then it's (most probably) Italy in Semi Finals, and Brazil in Finals. Assuming we win all the games.

i'd say Holland, but they're just the lesser of two evils.

shame about the Czech Republic, but oh well.

for the Portugal x Netherlands match i'd pick the team that played vs Mexico, except:
nuno valente instead of caneira
deco instead of tiago
pauleta instead of postiga (i'd say nuno gomes but he doesn't look like he's at 100%)
between simao and ronaldo, it's a hard choice. simao played a great game vs Mexico.

oh, and Owen, shame about him too.

Bahahaha did anyone see the Croatia - Australia match? The referee gave a croatian player 3 (!) yellow cards before sending him off, and he didn't give Australia a penalty when a croatian defender was playing handball inside the penalty area. I guess his World Cup is over now...

Something like that happened here once (3 yellow cards). I think the referee was gonna get kicked out permanently, he acted quicker and resigned.

Yeah, agreed. Although I thought that PK call was bullshit, the US lost because they're strategy is waaayyyy too conservative. Seriously, the one time in this game that they really seemed aggressive was when they brought in Johnson as a second forward late in the match. Too bad Arena had to wait till the end of the road to grow some balls!
