Very interesting for anyone who enjoys learning about the ancient Mycenaean and Minoan civilizations.

Is it fiction? I like the Falco Roman detective ones...

I'm afraid not... It basically chronicles the discoveries of Heinrich Schliemann and Sir Arthur Evans at Troy, Mycenae and Crete. It is very interesting though, and I really reccomend it if you can find it (apparently, its a pretty rare book).

Not a problem. I like historical stuff, I'll have a look for it...

Excellent. If you can't find it, other books with similar subject matter that are supposed to be good are The Palace of Minos by Arthur Evans, The Archaeology of Crete by J. Pendlebury, and all of Schliemann's books.

Freakonomics. i'm about a third in and i can't understand the hype surrounding this book.

also the "driver's code"... i'm getting my driver's license 8)

the theory bit is stupid and full of useless garbage but you have to pass it to get a license.

I read Gunslinger (all of it) last night. Hmmm... Is all of Dark Tower like that? Read all biblical, with a historical as-a-matter-of-fact likeness? And for that matter, should I have read The Stand first? I was looking into The Stand, and recognized the name Randall. Lemme know.

I'm curious.

The original Dark Tower trilogy is fantastic. I highly reccomend it. As far as the continuation he put out recently, not so much. Yeah, the atmosphere is the same throughout the whole series though.

Randall Flag is a recurring character in quite a few King books. It's not necassary to read The Stand before the Dark Tower series, but I suggest that you read it anyway. It's an amazing book and will keep you occupied for a while(1000+pages).

What he said. The first three really are the best, but books 4, 5, 6 and especially 7 are all quite good, even if King does quite stupid things in them.

I can now congratulate Stranger in a Strange Land for being the first book that I have stopped reading in a longass time. How the hell is this a science fiction classic? The writing is sloppy and the characters are boring, especially when the book becomes a series of essays about how the Man From Mars' view of life is much better than our society's. Its an all right view, but not explored particularly welll and is repeated over and over and over... Heinlein has written much better than this, and science fiction has much better books to offer.

Now doing a re-read of Herodotus' The Histories.

The Stand is awesome, I read the uncut edition (1500 pages) in two weeks-I was hooked.

I am reading Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut.

It is somewhat philosophical satire on contemporary American society. It is very good, and if you're into shit like Kurt Vonnegut, I highly recommend it.

I've only read books 1-3, but I can tell you that "The Drawing of the Three" and "The Waste Lands" read differently to the first book.

They don't feel as much like having a dream (if you know what I mean) - you still find out precious little about the gunslinger and his motivations, but there are stronger hints that all will in fact be revealed, rather than the purposely leaving you confused and with a thousand questions like the first book. New characters are also introduced, and unlike the gunslinger their histories and thoughts are revealed upfront, giving you more to chew over.
