The Human Condition-by some pretentious bint.

A good read, but she drops Latin way too much in it. Maybe if I knew Latin it wouldn't be so annoying. If you like philosophy and the like, it's worth a look.

I'm going for those two, as well. I also want to read Joyce's Ulysses.

right, just bought:
John Kennedy Toole - A Confederacy of Dunces
Carlos Ruiz Zafón - The Shadow of the Wind
Dostoyevsky - Crime and Punishment

the last one was 3.15€, and hearing so much praise for it i decided to risk it. hope i didn't bite off more than i can chew.

I think I've been addicted to King. I have about sixteen of his books now.

FUCK! I was hoping I'd get addicted to Umberto Eco or something.

That's an excellent choice. I read it in 3 days I was so enthralled with it. The companion book Desperation is great too.

NR:Decartes' Secret Notebook

Rene Descartes was a truly brilliant man.

Finished The Catcher In The Rye over the weekend, and I thought it was really great. I thought it was funny, but that might just be me.

Now:

i also thought Catcher was funny. that habit of pretending he'd been shot in the stomach or something when he drank, dunno why, but i still think about it when i drink.

anyway, Hunter S. Thompson, anyone read his works (the rum diaries, fear and loathing in las vegas...)? i heard it's great stuf, but i'd like the opinion from someone here. do the books have stories too, or is it just descriptions and philosophical questions?
