Yeah the Argentina - Mexico match was one of the best matches so far in the WC. Rodriguez's goal was absolutely incredible, on of the greatest goals in the tournament if not the best one (what's up with Argentina and scoring amazing goals? :P )

As for Sweden, well, to sum it up our performance was barely acceptable. A decent match against T&T, another decent match against Paraguay, one good half against England and a absolutely disastrous match against Germany.

I'm rooting for England now, not because they play the most brilliant football but because I want Eriksson to get some glory before he leaves the job.

Argentina played really badly. I dont' know why Pekerman still insists on playing Saviola. SAVIOLA IS GARBAGE, I HATE SAVIOLA. Tevez and Messi are 10 times better. And Riquelme needs to step up. He did absolutely nothing today. I did like how Crespo played today though. Superb performance from Crespo.

yup, i didn't expect Argentina to have such a hard time.

also Heinze should've been sent off.

Shit I'm nervous about Ecuador.

I stopped watching the Argentina game after the winning goal. Mexico had been excellent but it was clear that there wasn't anything left in it for them.

Is it Portugal/Holland tonight?

Hopefully we can win this afternoon and I'll be able to relax and enjoy somebody else's football suffering as a neutral.

yup, Portugal plays Holland tonight, at 8pm GMT i think.

we beat them in 2004 but we were playing home back then, and had certain players in excellent shape.

but i think it's 50/50 tonight.

FORÇA PORTUGAL!!

hm, also June 22nd marked 20 years since Maradona's "hand of god" against England. i wanted to write something here that day but i forgot.

Image

in that game Maradona scored first with his hand, in a very controversial moment in football history, and then one of the best goals ever (dubbed the goal of the century), dribbling past 5 english players and the keeper Peter Shilton.

one of those moments...

Well yes, there you go. Argentina is a country that produces great footballers, but is still unable to win without the help of a referee  :P

Tough game, but a lot of positives. Hardly one chance created by Ecuador except for a bizarre error by Terry early on- hopefully the chances of that happening again are low.

And "Wazza" Rooney started to play again in the second. I'm feeling a little bit more optimistic again. Shame we have a tough quarter final lined up.

That was a great goal. Rooney played very well in the 2nd half also. England needs to put a whole game together if they want to make it any farther though.

This fucking ref sucks. I'm trying to watch a soccer game but nothing can get going because the ref blows. Deco just got thrown out. I think there have been about 14 yellow cards.

Man, both those fucking teams deserve to go out... Especially Portugal though, and especially Figo. I can't remember ever seeing a player at his level behaving in such a pathetic way. The commentators here were saying he could get a suspension from FIFA for that headbutt when the "referee" wasn't watching... man I hope he does because he really deserves it. Total cunt, and he should really be ashamed of himself.

You sure did, but it was not so much a victory over Holland but a victory over sportsmanship
