The Horse Whisperer - I really like this movie. I may even read the book sometime. Scarlett Johannson, in particular, plays the whole pissed-off preteen girl role very well.

Oh, is she in it? Totally forgot that. Might be worth a rewatch then. She reminds me of The Prestige

The Mist - pretty good. Liked the religious zealotry and the ending.

She plays Grace in the film. I think she was only about 12 or 13 when it was filmed, so if you rewatch it, you'll get to see her when her acting career was just taking off.

Yeah the religion drama and ending was good,
*spoiler*
but come on, frekkin monsters? The mist could have been a psychological and paranormal, less is more scary movie but oh no. Some damn monsters pop up and chew away. I never got over that. Seems lame.

I agree, could've been better.

I'm in a fantasy mood... Could anyone do me a favour and mention some stuff I should watch? Thanks in advance.

No no no no no

IMO "psychological" is nearly always a euphemism for pretentious/limp wristed/shit in horror.

Seriously, the Mist without monsters would have been the failingest fail in all of failtown. In fact, it would have been like "The Fog".

Great film, as it is. When I saw it in the cinema in the US I was kind of annoyed by this guy that was giving a running commentary on everything... like when someone got decapitated he exclaimed loudly "Man, that bitch is dead!". And then, everyone in the audience seemed to laugh hysterically at the use of the word "motherfucker".... every time....

Thing I hate most is people who like giving the characters advice. When I saw it at the cinema, the people in front were like "no you idiot don't go in there!" and stuff like that. It was really, really pissing me off.

Cloverfield

Second viewing, still like it a lot. Although the thing I found most unbelievable about this movie was the complete abscence of even one f-bomb. I mean seriously, if I were in a situation like that, I would expect myself to be screaming fuck every five seconds and expecting just as many back in return from others.

8/10

Oh come on. It was great until the giant insects started appearing. If not for Marcia Gay Harden's mentalist Christian and the ending it would've been crap. Agreed about annoying people in cinemas, anyways.

And yes, Cloverfield was really good.

RW: Waz. So-so, good acting, all you need is love-y ending seemed a bit overcooked for me. Better than average film, though.

No, it went from being kind of dull before the giant insects appeared, to reasonably good once they did, and then very good after the ending.

Trans-Siberian

8.5/10, really good. They did a really good job of fusing that cold Russian atmosphere in the movie. A few "why did they do that?" moments stop it from being excellent, but it is definitely worth seeing.

I liked it too. Woody was actually pretty good.

Burn After Reading - better than the first time, but it's still crippled by none of the characters being at all likable

one thing that's started to bug me about Transsiberian the more i think about it is when she opens the train door and then almost falls out of it. nobody would be that retarded/not careful. still, i really liked the movie.

Yes Man - loved it. admittedly i always liked jim carrey, especially in the mask and ace ventura, but it's an all-round good movie. zooey deschanel is really cute, there are lols aplenty and it's not sappy at all.

Shut the hell up. Every character is "likable" in their own way. Are you kidding? Fucking awesome movie that was.

'not at all likable' was a little strong, but i didn't feel bad when bad things happened to them. except maybe the gym manager, because he was like a pathetic little puppy. i guess that's pretty typical of Coen brothers movies though. so yeah, i'll shut up
