I never really liked finance. Actually I haven't touched it since I completed the compulsory course. Macroeconomics is okay but I'm not so interested in the more 'mundane' aspects economics like inflation, interest rates, monetary policy etc. What I really like is more oriented at behavioral science, microeconomics and game theory (+ I am a sucker for mathmatical technicalities). Like why do we make the choices we do? What governs peoples behavior? Which incentives do people 'need' in order to do something specific?

The deeper I dig the more depressed I become because of the general craving for money and the indifference with how to get them. The nearly global 'culture' that have brought us millions of worthless luxury goods and turned them into necessities of life.
The way people is guided by financial incentives and the way that it is the only thing of real importance to them...

In case someone should wonder what caused this sudden outburst of discontent rambling I can disclose to you that I'm still somewhat drunk from last night...

By the way: I feel smooth.. I just shaved.

maybe it's because i don't understand right now, but i want to know how currency, interest, etc affect economy.

the guy from Micro gave a very short insight into game theory. it seemed interesting, i'm thinking of checking some intro to game theory books at the college library.

as for finance, i think i liked it because it just "clicked" and it seems easy and stuff. i know i haven't gone very deep into it yet, but i'm liking it.

EDIT - it does worry me that luxury never suffers through a crisis. maybe it's just me but i wouldn't feel right wearing someone's apartment around my wrist (for example).

also, someone asked in another forum about JAPANESE CD'S - why they carry bonus tracks.

i think it's because they're more expensive there, but some other guy says it's because they get released afterwards in japan and the bonus tracks are too show jap buyers that it's worth waiting for domestic releases.

so, why do they carry bonus tracks?

Its because CDs ae very expensive in Japan and its cheaper to buy imports, so yes, the bonus tracks are to encourage buying home-based CDs.

Most people on my university prefer macro. I'm one of the exceptions. But micro theory is the foundation of most modern macro models, so It's interesting in that perspective as well.

I'm afraid I didn't quite understand this

On topic: I was a little depressed earlier today. Then the snow outside cheered me a little up. Then I read about James Lovelock's new book in the newspaper and now I am in a strange combined mood.

I was ill for few days, now I'm getting back to normal. I won't be getting outside soon though, because of the temperature: -28 degrees centigrade.

I think here in Nebraska the coldest it has been was like -20° Fahrenheit. January is normally the time for such temperatures, but we were at 63° Fahrenheit the other day. Strange, strange weather.

Haha. Well it's -54 in Irkutsk and starting from monday until today there's a traditional Orthodox festival in entire Russia called "christening freezes". It's when people go swimming in an ice-hole to wash away their sins. You have to plunge into the ice-hole thrice and each time you come up you have to make cross (aa lot of celebrities (especially politicians) did it this year). And never there was an accident that someone got a cold or something, but still there is always an ambulance nearby. I really wish I participate in it sometime.

EDIT: PhyrWolf, you guys go to school? We've got no school for like the same three days.

A little sore. Sleeping on pine boughs with a parka for a pillow makes your neck hurt.

Other than that, I feel great! Winter camping is awesome. I'm glad to be back in civilization with such things as indoor plumbing and music (four days without music...longest I've gone in four years ).

well, in that competition my 'work' was described as: "Absurd, humerous and well written stories about ordinary days in the ordinary lives of ordinary people. I am thinking though to post a thread with my latest column.

spoiler: It is called "Dead little duckling"
