I can't believe it... The Italians, with less one player, scored the victory goal on a NON-EXISTING penalty at the 90'+3 min, because the italian threw himself to carve a foul... when the refery gave only 3minutes... Talking about corruption (Italian) and lack of sportsmanship... :?

Yeah a game with a nonexisting red card too..

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... yesterday I saw so many cards, what's one "baddly" given, hey? :P

I really would like to know if you italians really like your nation team way of paly... I mean, I see some italian soccer games and they definitely do not reflect Italy's tactic or way of play...

Switzerland - Ukraine has to be the most boring match so far in the tournament. Both teams created like one good scoring chance...Ukraine is gonna get their asses kicked big time by Italy.

roflcopters at the Swiss penalties. Did someone tell them the idea was to hit the oppositions goalkeeper?

Hey, guys, this is an idea I've had for ages and ages but never mentioned. Does anyone know the game cuppies (you may have a different name for it)? It's where there are teams of two players each, and one goal with an independent goalkeeper in it, and the winner is the team that gets the last touch on the ball before it goes in- ie they are both defending and attacking the same goal simultaneaously.

Wouldn't that be an awesome replacement for a penalty shootout? If it's still undecided after extra time, you get a neutral goalkeeper, and each team selects two players to compete in a mini cuppies match.

Worldcuppie rockzorz.

But where does this mystery neutral goalie come from at the top level?

Anyway, penalties rule.

Hmm, I guess there'd be plenty of options. It's not like he'd have to be great, just so long as he was equally crap for both sides.

But I also enjoy penalty shootouts, so long as I am neutral to the outcome.

Yeah, English folks are allergic to penalty shoot outs, right?

I very rarely get to see my teams involved in them, but Rangers beating a Ronaldinho-powered PSG a few years ago in a shoot-out was the ultimate high.

In fairness we're better at them than Holland or Italy (or the Swiss roflamingos)

But yes, we tend to lose them a lot more more than we win.

penalty shootouts (especially sudden death) are seriously nerve-wrecking affairs, but yeah, it's fun to watch when you're neutral.

can't believe no one read my rant :/

Roflamingos is Kathy inspired I think, wouldn't want to take credit for that one lest I should feel his wrath.

Azrael: I read your rant, but didn't feel like I had anything to add. I agree with you about Pauleta, and I don't take much comfort in the absence of Costinha because it's not your holding players that frighten me (except if maniche gets in shooting range  ). Looking forward to Saturday however. (Pretty fucking nervous about it, actually. Hoping C. Ronaldo stays injured).

you should be angry that Costinha isn't playing, he sucks horribly :P

it's a shame what happened to Ronaldo, but even if he doesn't recover i'm sure Simao will do a great job.

why, why, WHY do shitty players like pauleta and costinha NEVER get injured?! WHY?!!

here's hoping that we pwn you like in 2004. and 2000 :P

Haha, there's no pride in beating a team managed by Kevin Keegan  I can't believ how much we sucked back then...

But 2004 was a horrific night for England fans. Still think we would have won had Rooney not got injured, and I still think that goal shouldn't have been disallowed. Damn you Portuguese, we desperately need some payback :x

Image

hmmm, it seems to me that the goal was well disallowed because he knocked down the keeper. and yeah, things could've gone another way had rooney not been injured.. but that's footie for you.

the papers still seem to gay to knock down Pauleta and Costinha, fuck them. it's not like they give a fuck what the fans and the media think, so they might as well give them a good lashing.

Heh, it's the opposite here. Endless, endless column inches devoted exclusively to how this English team is the worst thing to have happened to football ever. Nobody is saying England have done especially well, but the ridiculousness of the criticism they have been getting here is out of all proportion. It puts a downer on the whole tournament when the only things you can read about the team you're supporting is how much of a disgrace they are :(

the problem is that they seem to hate Eriksson and won't rest until he's effectively out of the coach spot, no matter how well England play.

In many cases yes, but each journalist has a different agenda. There's this one writer that just seems to really, really hate the English football team, Eriksson or not, for some reason. If we try and slow the pace of the game down to protect a 1-0 lead it's "England pathetically trying to waste time". Of course if someone else does it it's "intelligent gamesmanship". Before the Ecuador game it was "England are so arrogant that they will underestimate Ecuador and be humiliated". Of course, after the Ecuador game it was "Ecuador were the worst team in this competition, England should be ashamed that they only won by a goal". It gives me great pleasure to think of them crying to themselves every time we score 8)

This is something I've been ranting about all the time recently, but it's something that pisses me off *a lot*. In fact, bad journalists in general are the people I hate most in the world, and there just seems to be a vast number of really terrible ones working in football.

Haha, anyway, bedtime for me now... if I can sleep after working myself into a rage

Actually I think your team is very good, but the players don't seem to want to input more velocity to the game, the tactics are too constrageous, even you start to delay the entry of the ball on play, wasting unecessary time when you have no need for that (like Portugal when was playing with 10 to 11 and 9 to 10 players).

I think the english players mentality has really changed, and your way of play has less warrior soul like it had before... Take the example of Australia, not so good tecnically like your players, but has that feeling for the game that some english players don't seem to have any more :|

I love to watch english premiership football (like I love watching the italian league), but both national teams have disapointed me a lot int his last years.

And I do think you played better on Euro 2004. ;) You are too slooooooooooooooow... ;)

Unless your team is bluffing in their way of playing, I think we have no reasons to fear you except for your middle distance shot, with Joe Cole, Lampard and Gerard. I hope your targeting won't be accurate :P

PS- I hope Pauleta scores so Azrael don't say the worst of him, and Pauleta is used to be served, and not to serve like he did on the goal of Maniche... I really think if Costinha sent off, Pauleta would have scored in the second half.
