I dunno why people badmouth Crichton. His books are always exciting page-turners, this one is also awesome.

That is a pretty cool book. Though it's written in a style with potential movie deals in mind.

Yeah, its obvious he writes these for the movies, but he has succeded in that, I mean Jurassic Park was awesome at its time. I finished the remaining half of this in just one day, the suspense is amazing, couldn't leave the damn thing.

This is a very good book, but I disagree that he writes them for movie. Have you read Eaters Of The Dead? It's written horribly. Sure, they made it into The 13th Warrior—which is a badass movie—but I couldn't get into the book at all, never finished it.

I am currently reading the following:

Great book so far, I love Brooks's writing style, very refreshing and captivating. My problem is that I read all of his books starting last year or so. I read the previous three books in the The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy and the previous two in the High Druid of Shanarra series, which this book is a part of (although all six books are essentiall one series set 20 years apart). The problem is that by the time I finished Jarka Russ, the first in this series, Tanequil, the second book, had just been published. I waited for over a year before reading this book, so I fucking forgot all kinds of shit. It slowly comes back as you read along, but it still sucks to go into a book not being able to remember shit, and I'm not all that down with re-reading books.

I'm guessing it's because he's a goddamn crazy hack.

I've read JP and Timeline and now Prey, they all are movie books, maybe he doesn't write them for it, but his way of telling the story was very compatible to a movie script in these 3.

Good so far, I expect it to be great, it's a classic anyway, I'll tell you when I'm finished.

Well, I'll agree that the adaptability to movies is very easy with his books, although that doesn't always help. Timeline was a fucking killer book, yet only a mediocre movie.

The Sience fiction in timeline held the book together IMO, the story beyond that sucked. Thas why the film was shit, it skimmed over the science fiction and focused on the shitty story.

Timeline rules. I usually prefer books and if I read the book first I always get dissapointed with the movie. Even LOTR dissapointed me at first, even though it kicked ass, I couldn't stop criticizing it.

I did enjoy the book, but if the science fiction parts hadn't been so believable and so dam good then i think the book would have been very dire.

Whereas the movie was just a bunch of stupid shit with Billy Connoly and Paul Walker trying to outact each other (I hear several extras were killed in the ensuing shitstorm).

Of course, take away that part and the book has no purpose. That's the story right there.

I thought the 13th Warrior was awful, even if it did have my uncle in it ( 8) 8) 8) ). And I've never liked Crichton as a writer much, surely he should be able to write more interestingly about the subjects he does?

Isaac Asimov- Nemesis

Asimov is the best science fiction writer, IMO.

Your unkle? I'd ask which caracter he was but I don't really remember it. And I find Crichton's writing very interesting, his subjects always are interesting and he does manage not to fuck them up even though they're pretty hard to tell, like nanotechnology.

The only Crichton I've read is Jurassic Park (good!) and The Lost World (bad!). I'm not a huge fan of his writing style. And he sure does like the adjective "bodily."
