I feel that the reviewers should do just as many old releases as new. Metal isn't like pop.

There should be an "introduce yourself" thread or, even better, a quizz where one can voice his likes, dislikes etc.
That way, newcomers would quicker become known to the other posters and the community would be strenghtened whatever the recent losses of old members are.

there's the "who are you" thread, which comes pretty close to some of the stuff you posted.

Feel free to start one, guise. If it takes off I'm sure sticky status can be... arranged.

1. In the review realm the site is gravitating toward more obscure bands/titles. With that being said, there just isn't enough prompt attention being given to releases by (dare I say) more popular/well known bands. They do get reviewed but it takes awhile. I feel that the review should appear about the same time as the release of the CD. There are many of us who don't download the "CD leaks". We look forward to reading about those CD's upon their release because we purchase our music upon the official release.

I often get the impression that Metalreviews sometimes gathers any new albums they can find at their local "Heavy Metal Market" (without even looking at the bands or titles) so that they can have a sizable number of albums reviewed every week. This IMO is completely unnecessary. There's no need to review exactly ten albums per week (which amounts to reviewing 40 or 50 albums per month). If there's nothing really interesting being released at the moment, cutting back on the number of reviews is perfectly reasonable. And it will eliminate some of the "boneyard reviews" we've been getting lately.

I have to respond to this point. We get an assload of requests for promo reviews from bands/labels. 90% of the time, they are unknown, but I think we owe them review space just as much as the bands you all already know. Obviously, we try to review new stuff as quickly as possible, but a lot of times it depends on whether or not anyone on the staff is really interested. For instance, let's say that the new Dragonforce had not been reviewed yet. I wouldn't feel the need to review it just because it's a major release. Frankly I could care less, so I would rather spend my time reviewing something I enjoy. I'm sorry if this attitude doesn't sit well with some, but we spend a lot of our free time with this, and we should be able to listen to and review whatever we feel like.

Sorry if I'm coming off like a prick, I'm not trying to.

I just saw this now but PLEASE do not change what you review or the amount of albums you review. I've learned of so many bands from this site ( And another site that catches a few you guys miss ). Most if not all of the big names get their spotlight in the reviews too, so keep it as is please.

Yeah, it'd be just another button to add and a quizz to fill for everyone on the forum... I'm sure it's not that big of a work...

Please Mr MR, give us a form we can fill and update whenever we want.

I'm not sure if that can be done, but I'm not a super-coder. I would say your best bet would be to start a thread and write all of the questions in. Then everyone could just copy and paste for their replies.

One thing that I have noticed is that the Black Metal interest around here has gone down considerably. If it was Daniel or Misha that reviewed Brown Jenkins, it'd be a three-page thread by now! Am I so inferior, you callous blackhearts? Are my words so distatefu to you?

Seriously, unless y'all have suddenly lost interest in BM, there are some great bands that I've reviewed that deserve attention, Brown Jenkins not least amongst them.

The only black metal band i've been listening to is The Ruins of Beverast, and i am afraid that's all i am going to need for some time. Usually i get into a black metal spree at mid-autumn.

Heh, I seem to be the only one holding aloft the blackened torch. Surprised how many people hadn't heard Paysage...

Sorry Zad, I'm just not into BM. I think the genre is losing fans since the BM-hype is finally over.

The old bm domination era of this board was fun. But it has passed after Misha and Daniel sold out, Skartasis and Astaroth started posting less, Valefor got lost in time, and I managed to do all three.

Sorry if I forgot anyone and I'm sure I did. I think there was Desolate.

I'm just not that much into bm anymore. Still my life's top ten list is dominated by black metal, and I don't hate it and have not quit it by any means, I just found that there are other awesome music out there.

edit: Ah the nostalgia. I think that was around 2004-2005. That's when I discovered underground bm. I found this site. I was listening to the awesome releases Si Monvmentvm, To Violate the Oblivious, Salvation, Tentacles of Whorror, The Black House and such. Add The Work Which Transforms God and Casus Luciferi to that.

To this day, 2003-2004 remains the greatest years in black metal. Salvation, Casus Luciferi and TWWTG were 2003 I guess but that's when I heard it.

I love black metal but generally the kind everyone seems to hate. I think the last BM album I got that you reviewed was Gloomy Grim, which was alright for the typical stuff it is.

Nothing that really suits my tastes has come out lately BM wise for me. I love symphonic black metal and the more traditional stuff like Windir or Vreid... I also like Dino Burger and Satyricon style stuff too... Didn't really dig the whole Brown Jenkins biz, not my kinda thing.

Please keep the BM reviews coming heavy though, I enjoy checking them out and find a few I enjoy as I go through them.

No worries, been digging through some of my Darkthrone recently and it's still amazing stuff, not gone Misha on you guys (old-timer reference plus one!). Expect more Black Metal that you probably haven't heard of in the future!

I voted yes. The forums seem to have less new topics and replies to threads and reviews have greatly reduced. I remember the old days, even before the site underwent a makeover. Anyone remember the replies to the St.Anger review? That was fun. I don't really mind about the forums not being as active as they are. The main reason I visist this site is to read the reviews. I used to post a lot earlier. But don't post much now, simply cos 1) I'm lazy. 2) I cannot login to my account on this site from my office. Probably they might have done something to ensure security.
