Charles has a good point. People seem to be against contraception, abortion, the morning after pill et al because it encourages 'immoral' behaviour. People have, do, and will always fuck - it's human nature. Why not remove superstitious barriers and simply accept this?

LONDON: Nearly one in three Britons think that if a woman jumps up and down, washes or urinates immediately after sex, she can prevent pregnancy, a survey revealed on Monday.

It was one of a string of revelations in the survey carried out by the Family Planning Association (FPA) at the start of Contraceptive Awareness Week.

The FPA – which has called for improved sex and relationships education in schools – said they revealed “widespread confusion and misunderstanding” about some of the basic facts.

“In today’s sexualised society, we are bombarded with a multitude of sexual imagery and messages,” said Anne Weyman, the chief executive of the FPA. “Nevertheless, providing people with the information and skills they need to make positive choices is not considered a priority.”

The survey showed that half the 500 people questioned did not know that a woman’s most fertile time was between 10 and 16 days before her next period.

The poll also revealed that 89 percent of respondents were unaware that it was possible for sperm to live inside a woman’s body for up to seven days. reuters

i don't know what their main purpose is, but either way if they were mainly created to prevent one thing (transmission of STDs) it doesn't mean that they can't also help prevent pregnancy.
