Your unkle? I'd ask which caracter he was but I don't really remember it. And I find Crichton's writing very interesting, his subjects always are interesting and he does manage not to fuck them up even though they're pretty hard to tell, like nanotechnology.

One of the Vikings. Not a big part at all.

Eh, Crichton is a pretty sub-par author. In some of his books (key word: some) he can keep the pages turning, but thats basically all that he's got going for him.

i finished Crime and Punishment last night.

final thought... meh. if it didn't have the "classic" label i wouldn't even have bothered to finish it. some of the dialogues were horribly boring (especially the one between Porphyrius Petrovitch and Raskolnikoff in the former's office), and the translator, it seems, favours unnecessarily complex vocabulary, you had to read the same phrase 2 or 3 times for it to actually set it.

i blame the translator. avoid the Penguin Popular Classics edition!

13th Warrior was an excellent movie!

Asimov is the best science fiction writer, IMO.

I find a lot of Avimov's books to be rather similar, such as The Naked Sun and I Robot. But i have to say the Foundation Trilogy are my favorite books ever (along with dune) so i might have to agree with you there.

No way. Asimov kills Dick. The Foundation Trilogy=greatest sci fi ever.

Nothing like a couple of guys arguing over Dick.

You're wrong. Dick wrote over 50 novels and none of them are bad, and most of them are genius. The Transmigration of Timothy Archer, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, The Man In the High Castle, The Zap Gun... I could go on and on and on.

There's no doubt that he's a very good author, and that he has created some genius work (I particularly loved "Do Androigs Dream of Electric Sheep_ but the Foundation books, some of the Robot books and others, like The Naked Sun and The Gods Themselves are beyond genius.

Eyesore: Alas, I am forced to argue about Dick a lot. I mean, everyone loves a good Dick every once in a while, but Dick can sometimes get sloppy.

It's a big subject, HUGE in certain circles. It's almost impossible to avoid. I understand during conversations like this, if there's an opening, you've gotta slip it in.

So I've just finished Dark Tower 4 and realised that Randall Flagb is going to have a big role over the rest of the series. Should I read The Stand first?

Hard choice, but I think I prefer Asimov. Dick is awesome, though.

Shit, I very nearly added a "Philip K." to the start of it, foreseeing someone doing that, but I thought, 'nahh, no-one'll be so immature'. Guess I was wrong. :P

Just finished Martin's A Game Of Thrones, and it was utterly amazing. Can't wait to get my hands on next one.
