I just finished the last 150 pages of Angels and Demons. Fuck, I don't care about the catholicism-friendly message, the book was addictive like heroin. I just couldn't put it away :?

Great book, as was The Da Vinci Code, but I totally dislike the fact that both books were essentially the same exact story with different characters and places. I mean, they both start EXACTLY the same way. Not cool.

And Angels And Demons is better than the DaVinci Code. And I have seen About Schmidt , = :(

I would say it's a toss up between which you read first. Like I said, they're both essentially the same story. If you read Angels & Demons first, you know what's coming in The Da Vinci Code.

And yeah, without the "scene," About Schmidt still sucked.

Funny, though, how pro-Catholic A&D is, and DVC went the other way...

Meh. It had some funny bits, like when they were at dinner and Jack innocently asked about the guy's investments. And are you saying with the scene it was a good film?

Robert Jordan - The Shadow Rising

I was already busy with this one, the fourt in the Wheel of Time series, when I read A Game of Thrones, and now it suddenly lost all its allure! I think I will finish this one and then its bye-bye Jordan.

i finished The Shadow of the Wind last night, and what can i say? it's an awesome book. the last bit where everything was explained to Daniel was kinda boring, but other than that it was very nice. i liked all the subplots and they way they were all connected to eachother and the main story.

now reading
John Kennedy Toole - A Confederacy of Dunces

Alas, compared to Martin, Jordan just doesn't quite cut it anymore. Still, The Shadow Rising is a very good book; unfortunately, the Wheel of Time reaches a point around book 8 where it really, really starts sucking.

Looks like you know your fantasy. What can you recommend in the line of Martin that's also good?

I'm back to reading this:

This one in particular:

The first three have been excellent. After these next two I have like ten more Salvatore books to read.

Although Martin is my absoloute favourite and you should really read all there is of A Song of Ice and Fire first, I really reccomend R. Scott Bakker's trilogy, The Prince of Nothing (the first book is called The Darkness That Comes Before). You'll especially enjoy it if you like philosophy. Also of interest is Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series. The first book (Gardens of the Moon) is pretty hard to get into (for various reasons; its a hell of a complex world and Erikson doesn't explain anything for a while which is kind of refreshing, but the writing isn't up to par with the writing in the rest of the books in the series). Its very high magic, very powerful characters type of fantasy, which I normally hate, but Erikson is gritty and writes incredible battle scenes. Finally (for now), I also reccomend C.S. Fridman's The Coldfire Trilogy. Not completely stellar plotwise, but incredible with characterization and character development, a very interesting world and magic system, and really, one of the coolest characters in fiction ever. Those three should do you well.

Seeing as how I want to move into the social science area for my masters, I thought I'd better buy something from the relevant section in Borders.

I'm going to try to start this summer on my own... But basically, I have one more year of this CEGEP thing (two year pre-university thing we have here in Quebec), and as soon as I start university, I'll be taking Latin.

This is actually quite amazing. Thus far, it reads more like a novel than a work of history.

Wolves of the Calla - bit of a slow start but wow if the Old Fella's backstory didn't kick serious amounts of arse!
