Sleuth - watched this one earlier today. And while I dig movies that are a different and often with psychological undertones (some recent ones like Sweeney Todd, The Prestige and The Number 23), this one goes WAY beyond different and sucked. I mean, Jude Law is just bad in his role here. His acting when he tries to be scared is laughable. And what the hell was that homo sexual behaviour from Michael Caine? My god. The plot was simply nothing... and the director must have been desperate trying to come up with something new and original. But he failed... big time.

End of rant.

I liked the concept of two guys trying to outsmart one another, but Sleuth ran out of ideas like... right away. It entertained me but it probably could have been a lot better.

It's a remake. Laurence Olivier was in the original with Caine, and going from that to Jude 'set me on fire because I am abomination' Law is complete facepalm.

That's just stupid. Why do a remake with one of the same actors that were a part of the first? I like re-makes in the way they are a bit different and sometimes try to capture other things. But if one of the main actors from the first is appearing on that one also... wasted if you ask me. But that wouldn't matter if the movie itself is good.

They remade Get Carter with Caine as the elderly pathetic baddie and Stallone in the lead. It was even fucking worse than you'd expect.

Ha! I've seen that one. And I agree. Why having the guy who had the lead last time even featured in the re-make? And not even as the main character... Shitty at best. But I really like Caine. When he's in the right film he can be awesome.

Not 100% optimistic though.

Frigid should love this: I bought The Big Lebowski on DVD. I've already seen it once and liked it. I'll probably watch it again on Thursday night.

The Dude Abides

Best catchphrase? That movie is brilliant, absolutely an essential part of what should be everyone's cultural awareness.

Drag Me To Hell 9/10 - Had a blast watching this movie. Sam Raimi should just make these kinds of movies forever.

Taken 9/10

Good day for movies.

wat

Taken was extremely bad, in my opinion. Some parts were laughable, like all the karate chops and the part where he keeps replaying the message in the tape recorder...ridiculous. And Drag Me to Hell looks pretty bad, although admittedly I haven't seen it.

But anyways.

UP was very very good. Pixar can't fail.

Exactly. I thought it was a great movie, very fun watch. It has a 7.9/10 IMDB rating based on almost 80,000 votes and I must have been told by about a dozen people to make sure I see it because of how awesome it was. So, you shouldn't be surprised that someone may like it.

And you will really only enjoy Drag Me To Hell if you like the Evil Dead movies. The last half of the movie is amazing, especially the last 20 minutes or so, completely ridiculous and awesome.

Fair enough :)

I tried to watch Scarface last night but was really tired and kept falling asleep. The story as a whole reminds me of There Will Be Blood, though...anyone else notice a correlation?

Taken was a massive disappointment, personally speaking. Not nearly enough old-school silliness, and what, two set-pieces? Watch some old Arnie and see how it's done.

I've seen old Arnie, doesn't mean I can't enjoy Taken. And I only showed the IMDB rating to show that alot of people who have seen it did in fact enjoy it, which means it shouldn't have been so surprising to him that I did.

Oh, I know. Just taking the opportunity to state my opinion of IMDB (full of idiots) and Taken.

I will agree with you on IMDB, those forums scare me.

Taken was awesome. Liam Neeson was a total badass, it was simple, the action was well done, it wasn't too long, and the concept gave the story emotion.

He was totally powerless to show his love for his daughter (but he still abandoned the one thing he was good at to try) until she got kidnapped and then he kicked fucking ass to save her!

Matrix: Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?
Sully: That's right, Matrix. You did.
Matrix: I lied.

Matrix: Come on, let the girl go, just between you and me, don't deprive yourself of some pleasure, come on Bennett, lets party!
Bennett: I can beat you, I don't need the girl hahah, I DON'T NEED THE GIRL!

Old Schwarzie's cool because unlike that piece of wood Stallone, he knows it's a joke, and has fun with the whole thing.

Ha, yes. Either that or he didn't speak enough English to understand and it's all just bad acting. I think you're right, though.
