Ya, nothing wrong with the IMDB top 250. There's no use bitching that (gasp!) their top ten doesn't match yours, or that this movie should be in there instead of this one. Chances are, if you choose a movie at random from that list, it'll at least be good.

This. Skimming through it, all the movies there are worth seeing. Complaining that a movie on it is good but overrated just means that you'll dislike any top list that isn't your own. :\

As important as Blade Runner is, occasional cool dialogue do not a good movie make. I'd rather watch BB over that boring 'classic'.

Complete and utter facepalm. You fail.

And a top 250 should be just not, not some hipster bullshit 'cool film' bollocks.

Blaaaaahhhhhh

And Death Proof had some qaulity bits, the first 30 mins are great, as are the last 30 or so. Its just the middle that sucks.

Keep in mind that in IMDb the number of votes are very important.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with The Dark Knight by the way? I have a hard time to fault it for anything. It's simply stunning and I've never met anyone outside of the glorious Internetz who didn't share this view.

It's a good film, but it's not the second coming of Christ that the internet nerdbase declared it as. I love the new Batman films, but they are not perfect, and they are not as amazing as they've been declared to be. Simple as.

No Usain Bolt is the second coming of Christ, no denying in that
Well what's there to dislike really. Top-notch directing, acting, great script, etc, I mean The Dark Knight just feels so extremely well made and entertaining. I felt Wowed when I walked out of the cinema. Even if there are plot holes or something, the good parts just overshined the bad by a million to one...

Bale's acting wasn't stellar. The story seemed kinda disjointed at times, like there was way too much shit going on. Which still isn't a major problem. I guess its faults are what it doesn't do. I didn't cry; I didn't feel this tremendous sense of anguish for Batman. Watch A Clockwork Orange or Taxi Driver or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. They all create some kind of emotion in the viewer, whether it be disgust, sadness, pity, understanding, there is something there that pulls on your heart strings.

But it was an action movie, it wasn't really trying to pull at people's heart strings or invoke disgust... It was just trying to be fucking badass and entertaining. I was sucked in the whole time and some parts were like FUCK chills so I'd say it succeeded.

One problem with top movie lists is they forget that a movie that succeeds at being fun is just as good, if not better, than a movie that is all deep, sad, sometimes boring, and meaningful and shit.

I would definitely agree that those movies bring forth emotion better, and different ones, but that's not always the driving point behind a films greatness. I did feel for Batman and Harvey, even the Joker, although it never became the main reason to like the film. Much like Tarantino films, you don't always feel for the characters in obvious ways, they just tend to get under your skin one way or another and make a huge impression on you. Almost subconsciously. Don't take this as a Nolan/Tarantino comparison though...
I guess The Dark Knight portrayed an ideal that became bigger than it's own characters, and it's refreshing in a way. When I think of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest I think of how emotionally engaging it was. The Dark Knight more because of it's pure awesomeness and how I could feel fulfilled stepping out of the cinema without tearing up something inside.

Not sure I'm putting this right but I hope you see what I'm getting at.

I'm not saying that The Dark Knight didn't succeed in that... I'm saying that it simply wasn't enough to make it one of the best films evar.

And noodles, you need to watch the Rush In Rio DVD.

Eh, I can appreciate some of his stuff.

Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction - Yay
Reservoir Dogs - Yay, but overrated
Kill Bill 1 - Great if drunk, otherwise...
Kill Bill 2, Death Proof - Awful

I think that's all of them. Can't remember if he did True Romance or not, if he did that can go in with JB and PF.

Death Proof is my least favourite Tarrantino movie and even that was still pretty good. It does kind of bug me when someone says "man I wish there were more awesome filmmakers like Kubrick and Tarrantino who really want to make art. They are so great. Art art art. Kubrick Kubrick Kubrick. Tarrantino Tarrantino Tarrantino" so I can understand why people hate him.
