I started Song of Susannah in the airport last night. Glad to see it picks up right where the previous one left off (although at 450 pages it seems alarmingly thin for a penultimate volume).

Rise of the Roman Empire- Polybius

Now, just bought a bunch of books for when I go away for the summer on thursday. Got Tigana and The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay, Perdido Street Station by China Mievelle, the Legends II anthology, Illium by Dan Simmons and An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by David Hume. Should be good.

The Iron Council and The Scar are pretty darn good as well.

If Iron Council's good, I'll probably get that too, as they were selling the hardback copies for 7 bucks at Chapters. Thanks, folk.

Well, finished Song of Susannah and I'm unsatisfed. The story has dragged off in a totally different direction and I'm not liking all these low-men and vampires. Plus, how self-indulgent is

***spoilers I guess***

King appearing in his own book. What the hell? So there aren't infinite worlds, just lots of sort-of made up ones that lead back to a single one? There's a 'real world'? I don't like this at all.

Well, hopefully I'll enjoy the final book.

EDIT:
And while I'm at it, what's this bullshit in Wolves of the Calla with ''Flagg who was Marten who was Walter''. Since when were Marten and Walter the same guy? In fact, I specifially remember Roland being shocked as hell at the end of The Gunslinger "you're not Marten at all...you're Walter!" Fuck! Stop passivley dismissing stuff you really built up earlier in the series, Steve! [/rant]

I'm still trying to finish 1984. It's hard to concentrate in summer when I have the metabolism of a koala.

Truth.

But stick at it because all the best stuff all happens at the end (and the scariest shit is in the appendix after the actual story finishes).
