Good flick.
Bukowski, one of my favorites, and Rourke is a very under appreciated actor.

It was great. First time I'd ever seen it.

"Last time I saw you you didn't have nothin, now you've got a woman and a radio."

"I've always had a radio Jimmy."

Yeah, it's chock full of quality quotes.
Ever read any Bukowski?

Nope.

I can't remember the last thing I've read. Probably something from school, Catcher in the Rye I think.

Catcher In the Rye is a classic.
Check out Factotum or Ham on Rye, if you're ever so inclined. Very good reading.
Another good one is The Basketball Diaries, by Jim Carroll.

When I was in school I read so much, always 1 or 2 books on the go. Then I finished high school, and I just stopped. There are times where I have been meaning to start again, I just haven't gotten around to it. No time. Work everyday, all day then usual home shit, just no time to sit down and relax. And when I do have time, it's either on the PC or X-Box. But, if I ever do start reading again, and I'm sure I will, I'll keep those books in mind. And probably ask for some suggestions from others.

/rant.

I hear ya... I have precious little time myself these days, though at one time I was a voracious reader.
I try to squeeze in a few pages here and there, though.
Reading The Maltese Falcon right now...

Being fair, that is in the Torygraph, and there doesn't seem to be widespread Xtian anger or bad reviews other than the one mentioned in the article. The "rave reviews" seem to be just one, as well, so this might be a load of rubbish. It's not like films about Charlie D are going to be released at every cinema everywhere, but I'm sure the Xtian reaction will be a factor somewhere.

Sorry, I don't mean it in a direct offensive way. I'm an American citizen too. I just can't believe that such widespread idiocy in the US has so much power.

+1
Typical eurotrash wannabe intellectual walking around with a 14" dildo up his ass, thinking that because he has read a few books, he is somehow more intelligent than the average man. You can teach a parrot to talk, doesn't mean it is intelligent.
No, it is his way of feeling superior, as if he has any clue about the US outside of what he has read.
I find it hilarious that the same assholes that are always bad-mouthing "Americans" because of a small but very vocal minority are the same ones that never, ever say a damn thing about muslims and the fact that they are actually in their own backyard...
oops, that wouldn't be politically correct, now would it? No, they get their panties in a wad over whether or not some shitty movie will be shown in America. What makes these same twats any different from, say Coulter? Both spout ignorant generalizations about entire continents out of their ass (where else would they spout it from), after all.

Haha, I don't know many Americans that give half a damn about the minutae of European life... why don't you fucking Europeans worry about what's going on in your own countries for a change?
Sharia law, coming to a town near you?
Besides, I thought America bashing was no longer en vogue; get with the times, man.

Heh, Fridge is actually the most Islamophobic person on these forums, I think.

Because what happens in America usually affects the rest of the world (eg economy go boom) so everyone else sort of has to care, while what happens in Europe or Canada or Australia doesn't affect American too much so there isn't much reason for Americans to care.

You can't deny that the religious situation in the US is an anomaly as far as civilized nations go. Nowhere else in the advanced world does only 39% of the population believe in evolution. Nowhere else would a historical drama about Charles Darwin not find distribution. Nowhere else would a mainstream media spokesperson advocate the murder of a medical doctor on religious grounds. Insulting me won't get you anywhere, and apart from being completely uncalled for (I insulted none of you personally), is also highly counterproductive.

And yeah, I'm highly critical of Islam as well. I try to be critical about everything that needs criticism, in my own countries as well as others.
