Where? Where did you call it? You claimed nationality is determined by blood. It isn't, and the vast consensus of social scientists and political theorists agree that it isn't. What have you called out? That I'm not Scottish? I'm not Pictish, or Celtic, but I most certainly am Scottish.

Scottish is an ethnicity... sure you can break it down into sub-categories, but, nonetheless.
And it is also true the term Scottish can also refer to nationality, as well, but you come across as if you somehow have the authority on to who and from where the term "Scottish" applies; a girl from the States with actual Scottish blood, to you isn't a "true Scot" (as implied previously) and therefore should cork it up, and you (not living in the States, more irony; let's see if you can find it) think you decide whether or not she has a valid point.

Scottish is most definitely NOT an ethnicity, but a nationality. As I've already said, ethnically Scottish people were comprised of Picts, Celts, Northumbrians, Manxians and Scandinavians. None of these peoples are exclusive to Scotland, and most of them aren't native to Scotland either. When you talk about Irish-Americans, and you're speaking in terms of blood, you mean Celtic Americans who emigrated from Ireland. Scottish-Americans emigrated from Scotland, but ethnically they could share bloodlines with people in England, Wales, Ireland, the Faer Oer Islands, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Denmark, Holland, even France. You can talk about "Irish blood" because, although the terminology is incorrect, the Irish are almost exclusively Celts despite some Scandinavian incursion. Scotland is a much more diverse region, and this is recognized in the modern approach to nationality, where being "Scottish" can apply to people born in Scotland, England, Pakistan, India, Ireland, France (in fact, until the early 1900s, people of Scotland and France automatically had dual citizenship with the other country), and anywhere else. "The Scots" are not a monolithic ethnic group, not by a long shot, and talking about blood being a defining characteristic is not only racist, but betrays a severe lack of understanding of European history.

The Scottish people (Scots Gaelic: Albannaich), or Scots, are a nation and ethnic group native to Scotland. Historically they emerged from an amalgamation of the Picts and Gaels, incorporating neighbouring Britons to the south as well as Germanic peoples such as the Anglo-Saxons and the Norse. Later the Normans also had some influence.

In modern use, "Scottish people" or "Scots" is used to refer to anyone whose linguistic, cultural, family ancestral or genetic origins are from within Scotland.

How does that conflict with anything I said? You can be Scottish because you're ethnically a Pict or a Celt or whatever, or you can be Scottish because you have a Doric accent and represents Scottish culture. I suggest you do some bloody research on nationalism and national identity- your stance, the "primordialist" positions, is largely discredited. I suggest you start with Ernst Renan's lecture on "What is a nation?", widely considered the cornerstone of modern national identity.

The fact that you're arguing on the internet whether or not you're Scottish is working against you. The only reason that some people call you out about the nationality thing is because you're trying too hard. It seems you're in love with Scottish culture and language, so you're trying to shove it in everyone's face the fact that you are Scottish.

Personally, I would be considered Finnish by V's logic, but I've lived in Sweden my whole life and have never considered myself Finnish, nor has anyone called me out on it. It's probably because I don't go around singing the Swedish anthem and trying my hardest to use regional slang to prove to others that I am in fact Swedish.

That's part of it; the other part is the fact that ol' Fridge thinks that anybody that doesn't actually reside in Scotland has no right or authority to speak on behalf of, or make any commentary on Scots, even though that person is Scottish by blood.
The funny thing is, he has never shown the slightest hesitation to comment on and even pass judgement on the US and her inhabitants. Somehow, in his holier-than-thou mind, the same rules and standards don't apply to him.
