Is it a possibility that there are a lack of new topics because of the expected lack of replies? I don't make as many threads since they don't seem to go anywhere usually.

I think every site has there ups and downs as far as traffic goes. Personally i just joined and it is as much for the reviews, Metal and people as much as for knowledge of genre's i don't know much about and could quite possibly get to like.

Has anybody here ever considered having more than one person review an album (Metal-Rules.com does this)? Particularly when it comes to music, a second opinion is usually very helpful.

Yeah. There are some sites that have second reviews. I think it is a good idea. It's a good way to shut people's mouths who disagree with opinion.

On a completely contradictory note, I must warn the reviewer who will review Death Magnetic that if the score is below 80 you're in for an ass kicking.

We do have alternate scores given for albums quite often.

And this is actually the perfect answer to everything:

Well the second reviews are usually a few short lines explaining a different opinion. It shouldn't be so hard to add.

And what's with the inverted cross honey?

I don't know, after one listen, I wouldn't say its 80 or above material. I'm not doing the review, but I will give it an underscore after I listen to it a few more times.

One thing that I have noticed is that the Black Metal interest around here has gone down considerably.
Seriously, unless y'all have suddenly lost interest in BM, there are some great bands that I've reviewed that deserve attention, Brown Jenkins not least amongst them.

I think that I lost interest in BM because of all that suicidal black metal crap.

At first, I liked the idea. I like depressive stuff. But now, it's like a stupid new trend and every damn bands do his own hang yourself style.

Saying that, there are some black metal bands that still shine.

Dark Fortress's latest two, Negura Bunget, Blut Aus Nord..the french black metal scene is quite strong.

But overall, I think that scene is saturated of crappy bands.

Pleasantly suprised with this album

75 is a modest score but I'd give it an 80 easily.

Also, some key posters have gone.... I am glad to see the back of Ken, but I am not glad to see the back of Stefan, Misha, Radagast, Valefor, deathkvlt, lizardtail, eisenfaust. (I know some of them still post occasionally, but not a lot)

I don't know all these people you're talking about... Since I'm one of the newest additions that shouldn't surprise anybody but, like someone else said, and since I'm kind of an old-timer, I appreciate that there are not just underground elitists around... I like that, here, we can discuss music in general even if metal-related-music is the main topic of interest. I like that I can see a Nick Cave review and that no one is having any problem with it.
So, now, tell me who these kid you mentionned were and what they brought to the forum that us noobs don't.

Well, firstly, like I said in the rest of my post it's probably just my perspective to a large extent. I am not as bothered about discussing metal on the internet as I was so the forum seems less interesting to me personally. This isn't because I like metal any less or whatever, it's just because I have a lot going on at the moment which I didn't before, so metal discussion time has to take a back seat. I don't mean this as a criticism of you noobs, or even the forum as a whole.

But yeah, I do think the forum misses the people I mentioned, but again maybe this is just my own perspective, because those were all people I got talking with online and became "e-friends" with. Misha probably introduced the forum to more obscure BM bands than anyone else before or since, until he switched to becoming a lover of drone music and jazz, which generated a lot of interesting, if controversial musical conversation. Stefan had very provocative musical opinions which he wasn't afraid of expressing, and even if he did go too far with the whole "open minded" thing it was still fun most of the time. Lizardtail and Eisenfaust were both exceptionally knowledgable about Doom music, although we still have Adam to fill that void, so it's ok. Radagast was a cool guy who posted a lot of funny stuff in Helheim.

You said in your post that you like to discuss music in general as well, so you probably would have got on pretty well with Misha, Stefan, deathkvlt etc had you been around then also.

Most of the above still post occasionally, so it's not like they're dead or anything, just not the dominant personalities they were at the time I feel like I got the most out of the forum.

Valefor has recently resurfaced again as Cry of the Banshee.

Months later, and I have to say the forum is definitely not dying. I actually think in the last year it has become very fun to be on.

Absolutely.. However, now that I'm a reviewer it would be cool with more responses in the reviews-section... That may only be me though.

Yeah, that's been a problem since about three years ago. Stil, agreed, forum does not seem to be dying.

Having said that, I do miss the big debates where everyone would pile in, we need more of those. I thought that Israel v Hamas would have gotten a few responses, but no. We need a topic that everyone has an opinion on, but isn't necessarily political, like fat people on buses, or whether it's alright to make the lives of animal experimentalisers a misery.
