Is telling people what they can and cannot do really protecting them? Especially if they do those things anyway in a less safe and less legal environment if the government draws the line? Not just this but back alley abortions and drug cartels will still happen regardless of the legality of the action, and those are far more dangerous than their counter parts.

This view that it's the job of governments to change society in such major moralistic ways is so ridiculous. Leave the moralising to religions and make evidence-based policy decisions.

If it were legalized, you'd remove pimps from the equation and solve the problem. A month ago a prostitute in Switzerland filed a restraining order against some guy who kept visiting her, stalking her outside of her working hours, and even wrote her into his will. Weird. The police intervened and she's fine now.
