Yeah, I fear movies that try and inject modern music and stuff to period dramas! WTF? Keep that shit real. A Knight's Tale pulled it off, though, I must admit.

I'll admit to enjoying that. Still, that didn't really have a historical basis (it was NOTHING like the Chaucer!), and took a kid's comedy approach to it (although maybe the fact that I was watching it with family added points, if I was on my own...). Now, doing Marie Antoinette like a rom-com.

Right, no historical storyline, but the setting was long, long ago. Good flick, though. Not sure about Marie Antionette, though. I'll give it a shot. Have you seen Vanity Fair? That movie threw me, I thought it was going to be a chick flick, light comedy, but it was actually pretty dark and not comedic. I was surprised. I liked it.

No, but now that I see the picture I remember the movie. I'll have to look out for it. What does your uncle play in the movie?

Vanity Fair I avoided, because of what you said and, well, it's Reese Witherspoon. Still, she did get an oscar, didn't she, for playing Mrs Cash, so I'll give it a try, based on your recc.

And it's a very small part, he plays the King. His IMDB page is here, and I'm not just saying it was good because he was in it, I really liked it.

zomg, Zad's uncle was in Sharpe! That puts me a mere three steps from Sean Bean.

I'm not sure whether they actually used him in the end, apparently he made it a bit too scary for the kids' target audience. Got paid for it though, bought a studio in London off of it. Or was that from 13th Warrior? Either way, 8) .

Someone needs to make me start reading what movies are about before I buy and watch them. I knew what this movie was about, but apparently only paritially. Maybe the trailers were a bit misleading, I don't know. Anyway, I thought this was a movie about when people first sailed from England and slaughtered the Indians. Nope. Well, not really, anyway. This is a fucking tragic love story! Not only that, the girl in it is Pocahontas! I had no idea. Hahaha. Christian Bale is also in the movie, which I didn't know either. WTF? He first appears a little bit past the halfway point and his role isn't huge, but it's still a big enough role you think I'd have known about it!

Anyway, the movie is actually quite good. Not a lot of action, it's definitely a drama, but it's done well. And Colin Farell does a good job, he even does well with the emotional scenes (did you see his horrible work in Phonebooth?). Anyway, good movie.

Recommended.

awesome 60's british series... most of you know it as the intro to iron Maiden's Prisoner but that's a series to watch ! :D

@Eyesore, I heard about this movie (the Pocahontas thingy), what turned me off about it is people said it was damn slow... is it ? :?

It depends, I found it to be slow, but went into it expecting a lot of action and fighting. Had I known it was essentially a love story, a personal drama then I don't think I would have found it to be slow.

It was hella slow. I was also turned right off by James Horner's completely over the top music. I felt like I was drowning in sound, and not in a good way. For a film that was supposed to be about the love story rather than action, the characters were only painted in very broad strokes. I know this was probably the point, but I really didn't get much from it. I didn't care about the characters at all - the whole thing felt like a documentary following people around without actually finding out anything about them. Again, that was probbaly the point, but it didn't appeal to me at all.

I don't think he did
this series was his baby, he made the choice of the heart instead of selling-out to the big screen... I think you metalheads should appreciate this behaviour... 8)

It's funny you mention that because I had the subtitles on because I was having a hard time hearing a lot of the words, especially the narrated parts.
