Pasqua - it's not like this never happened. even during the Intercontinental Cup days it wasn't unusual for the south americans to take home the trophy.

I know man, last year Liverpool played very well against São Paulo, they had great chances, had three very questionable offsides that resulted in goals ... and they ended up loosing the game, 1x0. But they played a great match.

This time, Barcelona had a team filled with million-dollar stars, and they just couldn't get past Internacional's defense. Not even ONE real chance to score. Dude I know every single guy from Internacional, THEY SUCK. AND SUCK BAD. Barcelona's defeat is unexcusable, for a club that spends rivers of money trying to come by the best players.

The good thing about this match, and Brazil's failure in the world cup was to take Ronaldinho's mask down. Seriously, this guy was getting too much hype. Some people here in Brazil were beggining to say he's better than PELÉ, for christ sake.

Pasqua - dunno, then. that's football for you. stranger things have happened.

Rangers have taken the captaincy away from Barry Ferguson, dropped him from the squad for tomorrow's game and put him on the transfer list. I'm not fucking happy. We're having a shocking season, so we put our best player up for sale? Fuck, what a mess.

Paul Le Guen (the manager, the one who bombed out Ferguson) has now left. I reiterate: Fuck, what a mess.

and why the hell did Le Guen drop Ferguson in the first place? was it some sort of power struggle with the captain?

aaaaaaaaand doesn't anyone remember that legendary 5-4 match? watching the video again almost brought tears to my eyes

Le Guen claimed Ferguson was undermining him and that he thought the captain's role is more important than it actually is, which must be a cultural thing. But Ferguson has been captain of Rangers (twice, by two differnet managers), Blackburn and Scotland - there's no way he isn't the man for the job. Le Guen must have thought he was doing best for the club but he made a massive balls-up of the whole situation.

Walter Smith has just been appointed Rangers manager for the second time.

I hope this uplifted feeling I've developed is more than just nostalgia.

Dudek was pretty bad in that game, and Liverpool got brutally pwned.

but was Gerrard's goal excellent or what?!

David Beckham signed with LA Galaxy for 5 years, in a 280 million dollar deal (around 192,475,216.54€ or 127,660,404.16£)!!!

this guy is probably the most overrated player i've ever seen, and now he's off to the american league to become the most well-paid footie player on the planet!

also, Radagast, did Smith win anything with Rangers? after a 10 year dry spell Benfica finally re-hired the last championship winning coach, Toni, and... he was fired about a year and a half later. sometimes it takes more than a good coach :/

Try 7 league titles in a row (which took us to a record-equalling 9-in-a-row). The only season he didn't win the league was the final one he was in charge, when it had already been decided that he was leaving. The chairman, David Murray, wanted us to win 10-in-a-row, and then for Smith to leave at the top and for us to get in a manager that would take us to the next level in Europe. As it transpired, neither happened.

It's going to take a lot more than David Beckham's washed up self to make us care about that joke of a league MLS. How that thing stays in business is beyond me. They don't even have a National TV deal. That's not saying Soccer couldn't be successful here, but the boobs running that league have no business running a Fast Food Restaraunt.

hm, with Toni it was different, i think we had only been champions once or twice (but then again in the portuguese league the record for consecutive titles is 5, by FC Porto), but it was one our finest teams ever: João Pinto before he started sucking, Isaías, the young Rui Costa, Rui Águas (son of club legend José Águas and a great player in his own right), Schwarz, Vítor Paneira and captain Veloso.

that season had one of the most legendary matches in Portuguese football, a victory over "professor" Carlos Queiroz's Sporting Lisbon (who at the time had players like the young Luís Figo, Krassimir Balakov and Jorge Cadete) by 6-3 at Alvalade, Sporting's home ground.

anyway, yeah, incredible season and team and for some absurd reason Toni was fired that same year, and everything went downhill from there. we haven't even come close to matching that team since then. when he returned it was to no avail :/

and that reminds me of a maybe even more legendary coach at Benfica. Hungarian Bella Guttman was leaving the club, and the bastard said that without him Benfica would never again win the Champion's League (we won it two times straight with him - José Águas, Mário Coluna, Simões and the "black panther" Eusébio, best Benfica team ever!)... 40 years and 5 finals later, it is yet to happen. asshole is probably laughing in his grave.

/reminiscence :P

of course, i hope it works better with you than it did for us. plus, after Celtic got through in the CL this season playing like complete shit, i hope Rangers puts them in their place!

It won't happen this season. We're 17 points behind them and battling to even finish second in the league - its prety sad that we can be that far off the top spot and still be second, but oh well such is Scottish football. We're out of both cup competitions and the only thing left to play for this season is the second-place Champions League qualifying spot. Hopefully we can rebuild enough to mount a sersious challenge next season.

He was world class when he was at United. No questioning that. I think he came runner up in world player of the year twice when he was there actually, not to sure tho. Tbh not seen a lot of him since he left for spain so he may well be overated there.

Edit: Yeah he was runner up twice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World ... f_the_Year
