10 of 11 fights last night had the underdogs winning, first time that has ever happened.

Bigfoot is done, but I will admit that Mirs striking has definitely improved. All 100 seconds the fight lasted.

Mir said he totally retooled his boxing during the past year and it showed. His decision to fight in an orthodox stance also really threw Silva for a loop. He looked confused as hell and was unable to adjust his gameplan quick enough to avoid the KO. I don't think he's done after this fight but if he loses his next one to a guy of considerably less stature than Mir, then I would say he's gone. A nice night of upsets here especially for Smilin' Sam Alvey and Marion Reneau who both finished their fights in excellent fashion.

Velasquez-Werdum fight set for May. Should be a good one.

By "done" I meant his chin. All 4 of his UFC losses are first round KOs. And he's winless in 4 straight. And he just got KOd by a guy who has 1 win in his last 5 fights.

Velasquez-Werdum is on my birthday. Will be a great birthday present. Melendez vs Alvarez set for the co-main that night too.

A friend lost a $1000, betting that Ronda Rousey would beat Zingano after the first minute but before the second... I loled.

Big rumour out there, Frank Mir vs Brock Lesnar 3 set for later this year at Madison Square Garden. Dana said yesterday that he is so certain that they will have a show there this year that he has a date saved just for it. Lesnar's WWE contract is up the end of this month after Wrestlemania. Apparently he has been doing test weight cuts, and generally getting back into fighting shape.

Think CM Punk will debut on the same card? He just had his first real "fight" in sparring earlier this week against a 4-0 welterweight and he held his own. That's just sparring though.

So what do they do with Rousey now that she's more or less the unparalleled best female fighter?

Rousey is a huge commodity for the UFC right now and they will keep trotting out new competitors for her to destroy until people lose interest or she decides to hang up the gloves. The only real challenger left is Cyborg Santos and I honestly don't believe that fight will happen anytime soon, if at all. Rousey won't move up to a catchweight to fight her and Santos is going to have a very difficult time cutting down to 135. Ronda is trying to put herself in the best position to win by forcing the huge weight cut on the bigger, more powerful Cyborg, but ultimately the fans will be the ones losing out on this one.

WAR Dos Anjos!! A masterful performance last night by the Brazilian Muay Thai specialist who won his first UFC title with a dominant decision victory against a stunned Anthony Pettis. Rafa had the straight left hand working for him pretty much the whole night closing Pettis' right eye in the second round and then continuing to punish him with volume striking and a suffocating pace. He also finished 9 out of 10 takedown attempts against the former champion. To top it off, Dos Anjos did it on a blown MCL that he injured a couple of weeks ago! According to White, the plan is still for the winner of Khabib-Cerrone to challenge for the title barring a long recovery period for Dos Anjos.

Carla Esparza easily handled by Polish striker and new women's strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who is now the first UFC Euro Champion in the company's history. Also, solid decision victories for Bigg Rigg, Reem and Cejudo who continues to impress.

All I could think of while watching this is does this mean that Benson Henderson can come back to reclaim his division now that Pettis is gone? Dos Anjos was a beast, though. The competition in UFC gets better each year.

Pettis isn't going anywhere, I'm afraid. If anything, this loss was a much needed wake-up call for the former champion who was buying into his own hype waaay too much. I doubt he'll be out partying before his next fight. As for Bendo, I can't see him beating either Showtime or a healthy Khabib to even get to Dos Anjos, who drubbed him just a few months ago. Love the heart on Henderson, but barring a slew of injuries to the top 5 guys, I don't see him challenging for the title anytime in the near future.

A couple of UFC Fight Nights are in the books with Chad "Money" Mendes thumping Ricardo Llamas to cement his hold on the #2 spot at FW and Mirko Cro Cop exacting his revenge against old foe Gabriel Gonzaga. With a Mendes victory, this now sets up a possible #1 contender match-up between Chad and the winner of Faber-Edgar. Even if MacGregor shocks the world and actually beats Aldo, I see Dana making an immediate re-match between those two before giving Mendes a title shot outright. Whatever way it shakes out, there is a whole lot to be excited about in the coming months for the FW division. Mendes-Edgar has Fight of the Year written all over it.

For Filopovic, this has to be one of the most satisfying wins in his career. After being denied a title shot and KO'd with his own signature move, Cro Cop had to have been salivating for a chance to redeem himself against Gonzaga. Mirko has slimmed down quite a bit from his last stint with the company and his superior conditioning ended up being the difference here finishing a gassed Gonzaga with a flurry of elbows and punches late in the third round. In a pre-fight interview, Cro Cop said he had signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC so this should not be his final match. Andrei Arlovski is fighting Travis Browne in a few months, so a match-up against Big Country or the winner of Minotauro/Struve is most likely. I would have thrown Brendan Schaub's name in there but he's moving down to LHW for his next fight.

Jon Jones suspended indefinitely and now officially stripped of LHW title by UFC brass. Bones was involved in a hit and run a couple of days ago where he fled the scene after crashing his vehicle into another motorist after running a red light. According to police reports, investigators found marijuana and a hash pipe in Jones' car along with some memorabilia and rental car documentation which linked him to the crime. Jones turned himself into police custody a short time later. Former title challenger Daniel Cormier will takes Jones' place at UFC 187 where he will face #1 contender Anthony Johnson for the LHW belt. UFC in bad need of some good news right now.

And they didn't get it with Khabib Nurmagomedov's injury. Canadian John "The Bull" Makdessi will take his spot vs. Donald Cerrone later this month at UFC 187.

Makdessi is getting a lot heat as the replacement, but I think a lot of people don't know how good he really is. He just took a bunch of time off to heal up both his body and mind, then made short work of Shane Campbell at UFC 186 (which was an awesome card!). Now he gets the biggest fight of his career opposite The Cowboy.

Did anybody catch UFC 187? Had to work that night, so I missed out. From what I've heard, it was the best card in quite some time with a Fight of the Yeard candidate in Browne vs. Arlovski, a highlight reel head kick KO from the Cowboy and a thoroughly dominant Weidman victory over Belfort.

Isn't Bas Rutten and Andrei Arlovksi European?

Was an amazing night of fights. Arlovski-Browne was definitely the best 4:30 minutes of MMA in a long long time.

When Belfort cracked Weidman and had him stumbling backwards, the whole room erupted. Didn't last long, but it was fun.

I won money on Cormier so I am happy he won. AJ looked gassed after round 1, but I guess that's what will happen when a two time olympian is trying to grind you down.

Cerrone finished Makdessi at the right time, because The Bull was starting to find his range and was landing some solid hooks. Cowboy hit him with a huge knee to the jaw, then a beautiful Jon Jones style spinning elbow to the jaw, followed with a kick to the jaw that forced Makdessi to verbally give up do to a broken jaw. Beautiful violence. Cerrone will now rematch RDA; this time with the title on the line.

Derp. Arlovski should have been obvious but I totally forgot about Rutten. I still think Randleman was robbed in that title fight. JJ is the first in quite some time though.

I had DC winning that fight as well, but Rumble's cardio has always been suspect. He'll give you two great rounds and then fade pretty quickly. He's had a great run though and should continue to make some noise since he's finally found a comfortable weight class. Was refreshing to see someone new wearing the LHW belt and Cormier is probably the best fighter in the division not named Jonny Bones. I don't see Bader giving him any problems if they do actually fight later on.

A stunning upset submission victory at UFC 188 for Fabricio Werdum as he stuns Cain Velasquez in front of a rabid Mexico City crowd to unify the HW belt! Your initial thoughts, Wally.

Even top tier guys get ring rust when they're out for such a long period of time. My hope is that Dana will move ahead without giving Cain an immediate re-match. Let Velasquez work through a few guys and prove he can stay healthy before letting him have another crack at the belt. That being said, give Fabricio Werdum a ton of credit for coming out and taking it to the former champ. He's come a very long way from his beginnings with the company, where he was basically a BJJ guy with almost zero stand-up game. He earned that title, no question.
