I'm thinking of picking up either the original Diablo or Diablo II. One thing I'm reluctant about with the original is the possibility of it not being compatible with Windows XP (let alone both Windows XP and an NVIDIA Quadro 560 Video Card). So how compatible is it with XP? Also, which is better, the original Diablo or Diablo II? |

I like D2 the most. Especielly if it is combined with LOD and the last patch... = more and better equipment + 2 additional classes. As i recall it, Diablo 1 only had one city and took place underground. |

I think I'll just go with D2 myself. Seeing as to how Starcraft runs kind of spotty on my computer, I doubt the original Diablo (an older game) would run any better. |

They still sell it like it's a new game, so they must have plenty of patches for it to work on the new operating systems. I only ever played the second one with the expansion, and it was badass. |

Both games work perfectly under windows XP (or at least in my case). If multiplayer is something you're interested in then go for DiabloII since there's almost nobody playing Diablo1 on the official blizzard servers. I got in there 2 months ago and it was almost empty. Still, if anybody wants to play DiabloI multiplayer, we can always arrange a time and meet there, I never say no to a game of Diablo1. DiabloII is a richer and bigger game, with better multiplayer at the moment and as far as I know the expansion improved everything. My only problem with DiabloII was the erratic and dizzying screen movement which tired and annoyed me so much that I actually never finished the game. That is a personal thing though, since 2 of my friends never complained about this at all. My advice is to actually play both! Yes, both. borrow Diablo1 from a friend and play it for a week or so. I suppose you can finish it once or twice in that time. Then get DiabloII and see if you like it more. D2 can probably keep you playing for a couple of months. |

Diablo I is easier. Diablo II on hell mode ill see you do that. Especially on single player. Fucking impossible, if you don't get cheap characters such as the Barbarian or the Amazon. Best character ever: NECROMANCER! |

Diablo II. If you had Vista, you could run the game as if you had Windows 98 but I can't remember if you can do that on XP. |

I love both of them, but I'm a grade A Blizzard fanboy. The problem with D1 is that the characters are really poorly balanced. The sorcerer is ridiculously overpowered (except the fact that some monsters on Hell mode are completely immune to magic) and the Rogue simply sucks. D2 is much better in just about every way. Both of them require a lot of patience though... Dago wrote: Diablo I is easier.

Who plays D2 on single player anyway? Seriously, that most be boring as fuck ![]() BTW, a Diablo 1 game would be frigging awesome, too bad I don't know where my CD is... Worthless trivia: Diablo 1 must have the shortest installation time ever. It takes like 1 second ![]() |

I downloaded the demo for Diablo 2. And it works just fine under Windows XP. Question: Does Diablo 2 have randomly generated dungeons the way Diablo 1 did? I know that was the big selling point of the first game, and I'm wondering if the sequel has the same thing (in the demo, I haven't yet found that cave I'm supposed to be running through). So far, I like the game a lot. Unfortunately, the demo is missing the multiplayer mode, so I can only play single player. It's repetitive, but it's certainly fun. |

The section of my brain that has stopped working ever since I started playing RPGs has woken up, and is saying things like "Baldur's Gate", "Planescape Torment" and "Arckanum". Sound familiar, anyone? Never liked Diablo that much, Dungeon Siege did the same thing better. ![]() |

Dungeon SIege was really good, but waaaay too easy. And the multiplayer was full of people with insanely powerful characters, not balanced at all. |

![]() That's because it has an installation size of only a couple MBs (less than 5 if I remember correctly). That's nothing compared to the latest games that need several GBs of data installed on the hard drive. |

Get Diablo 2 in the Battle Chest so you get the expansion as well. The expansion makes the game about a million times better in my opinion. Improved stash, way better items, new classes and more to do. The original is good too. Honestly you can get both really cheap so I'd just snag both if I were you. |

The original is good too. Honestly you can get both really cheap so I'd just snag both if I were you. The Battle Chest also has the original Diablo. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the original's Hellfire expansion pack (probably because it's a third party expansion). I'll pick up the Battle Chest probably next month. And in response to Zad, Baldur's Gate stands as my all-time favorite computer game. I highly recommend it. Although I may be the only person in the world who actually found the original BG more fun than BG2. Planescape Torment is also a great game, but be prepared for a VERY intellectually-exhilarating RPG. The other ones you've mentioned I haven't played before. Dungeon Siege and Fallout I probably should play, though. |
