Post subject: | Daylight Robbery! |
So I was in this local mini-mart sorta place yesterday evening, at the checkout waiting to be served, when three men with covered faces burst in, threatened everyone with a hammer, and ran off with the till. No-one really did anything to stop them (there was a hammer, after all) and they were in the shop less than a minute, but it's the most exciting thing to happen to me for years! Anyone else been in a robbery/mugging whatever, and did you stand and watch, cynically thinking as I did 'not my money, not worth intervening' - or did you fight? |

no, but I can understand if it was exciting. I remember one time many years ago ago (probably 5 years) when I was on my from a private party with another guy. In short two other guys came and wanted to make trouble, and both me and my friend acted like pushovers to avoid any. I got punched twice in the face, but not that hard. I thought it was rather exciting and cool afterwards - of course not so cool that I wanted them to return, even though I regreted not to have done anything to the guy who punched me. |

No, but my mate once saw someone dive over the counter in a chip shop and start nicking the chips. I think they were too bemused to phone the police. |

Yup, two Northern African scumbags who robbed a gas station when i was inside to buy some beers. I wasn't at the register and it was only for 2 minutes tops so i guess it wasn't that exciting for me. |

yeah i got mugged in the lift once (opened a thread, can't find it). i didn't beat him into submission but fought back i guess - he tried to come after me when i left the lift, but i pushed him back in and forced the door shut ![]() HAHA PWN i like to think that i would intervene if i saw a mugging going on, but can't tell for sure until such a thing happens, and i hope it doesn't. |

this, for me i doubt i'd interfere with a robbery but if i saw someone getting mugged i'd like to think i would. |

thing about a knife is what if i just made everything even worse by intervening, say the guy gets nervous and stabs someone or something? as for a gun, yeah i'd probably stay away from that one. EDIT - what about syringes? some people use that in muggings here, i'd be fucking terrified, probably even more than with a knife. imagine getting aids or some shit over a cell phone or mp3 player or something! |

WTF syringes? Biological assault in a petty crime!? AIDS or syphillis is about 10x worse than a stab wound. |

I got mugged in a crowded subway station last febuary- about eight of them grabbed me, took my ipod, and then proceeded to beat me for about two minutes before someone intervened. I can understand not intervening if you're alone or the people are carrying knives or guns, but they were unarmed (except for, actually, a hammer) and the station was about as crowded as it can get, so it was kind of pissy to see lots of people just standing and watching as I yelled for help (along with several obscenities, like "piss drinking sons of circus whores" repeatedly). I am, of course, very grateful to the guy who did eventually help, and I can't say I know if I would interfere if I were part of the crowd, but seriously... at least run to get help, call cops, etc.. |
