Post subject:  Germans in da house!!!!

Anybody? I'm trying German food for the first time at the moment. Anybody else find it as fantastic as I do. There is this little German bakery down the street called "Gerda's" and it is so fucking good!! This is a for sure dead thread, but like Az I'm happy.... except not as happy, b/c his accomplishment is 100 times more rewarding...

I need to know of there are any Germans that post here or read other's posts and don't post themselves...

...I also had a few Pauleners while I was there. Hence the random topic...

Btw, I'm also listening to some awesome German power metal!! :dio:

...go fuck yourself.

Myself I am not German, but I do have lots of sympathy for this industrious and jovial (and, sadly, stigmatised) people. Beautiful country, interesting histories, good lagers.

I'm probably about 3/4 of German ancestry.

Well thanks, we're very proud of our immense culinary tradition here in Germany.

Although I've had more bad German meals than I've listened to bad German metal. :D

You went to Switzerland and didn't tell me?

Anyway, the germans have good beer, good girls, and good metal. Germany rules. Oktoberfest+Claudia Schiffer+Wacken=win.

The Oktoberfest is indeed great, but we have lots of good festivals here and most of them serve up an inordinate amount of beer amongst other things! Like the Gäubodenvolksfest is a good one to get away from all the tourists in Munich. The Mörs jazz festival is also a favourite of mine.

Metalwise not only do we have Wacken but we also have Rock am Ring, Summer Breeze, and Earthshaker, and some smaller ones as well.

Germans are masters pretty much at eveything, but damn do they have shitty food.
THey make good steaks, I'll give you that.

One side of my family is of German extraction (via Birmingham) so I'm vaguely close, perhaps.

I've actually been to the Oktoberfest when I was, like, 8. All I can remember is that it was really crowded.

But Germany's a really cool country. I'd love to go back there one day.

And yes, the food is really good. I find that a lot of German food goes well with either lemon or mustard. Their beer is a lot better too. American beer sucks.

We went to Berne. Yeah, it was great, it's a really beautiful town. Was only there about 48 hours though. I have family who live near there so I've been a few times over the years.

Everyone else makes fun of the bernese for being slow ("why should you never tell a bernese a joke on monday? Because he'll laugh in church on Sunday" har har), but the city is indeed beautiful. Next time come to the south!

i remember my old English textbook said something like:
In Heaven, the diplomats are English, the engineers are German, the chefs are French and the lovers are Italian.
In Hell, the diplomats are French, the engineers are Italian, the chefs are German and the lovers are British!

the closest i've ever tasted to german food would be the sausage+sauerkraut combo. yay for the former, NAY for the latter. good beer though, not that i'm a connoisseur.

Germans have excellent meat and bread, but most things are not that special. But it´s a great country to visit, I have been there many times on holiday. I will go again in December, to visit one of the huge christmas markets.
