Anybody else here a fan of Japanese Anime (or "Japanimation", if you want to be politically incorrect)?

My personal favorite anime is The Slayers (a very funny animated comedy, despite somewhat shoddy animation). And I also have a soft spot for Dragon Ball Z (despite how trendy the series became in the late 90's). But I'd like to get into some other animes like Mobile Suit Gundam.

I've watched every Dragonball episode, except the non-book stuff. Had a major thing for that back in junior high. Read every book also. Been toying with Death Note, but found it pretty boring.

Ever since someone sent me a link that I clicked on, I see nothing but tentacles whenever someone mentions Japanese cartoons. Made me wish Truman hadn't stopped at two.

Anyway, LIES! Tentacle porn is the perfect, complete artistic manifestation of freedom, democracy, and all that is just and good in the world.

I tend to stay away from shounen animes like DragonballZ or Naruto. They have no value whatsoever and are just a waste of time - time I'd prefer to waste in a different way. I've seen a lot of animes though and I can definitely tell you there are much better ones out there in pretty much every genre.

I'm a fan (& my old son too) of Miyazaki films... Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle specially.

Spirited Away was beautiful. Must watch that again sometime.

Cowboy Bebop's my favorite.

Neon Genesis Evangelion closely follows. I fucking love that series.

I also like Trigun and Outlaw Star. I know there are a few more series, but I just can't think of them right now.

Oh, and Naruto sucks.

You guys should try watching Detroit Metal City. It's from last year and very short - 12ep 15 min each. It's about a guy with a split personality, who wants to play swedish pop music but ends up singing and playing in a death metal band with a Kiss make-up calling himself Krauser II. Very hilarious, very recommended. Animation style is kinda weird but I think it adds to the jokes. He is a real pussy in his regular self but when he assumes the identity of Krauser he can say "rape" 10 times per second.

Gankutsuou is awesome. It's an adaption of The Count of Monte Cristo by Studio Gonzo (if anyone follows studios). Fafnir no Azure was another good one by them too.

Anime elitism FTL.

Call it what you want, at least I'm not watching Naruto.

Naruto became way too dull and tedious. The new season after the time skip has gone that way too.

As for me, my favourite anime are Elfen Lied (all time fav) and Ghost In The Shell (films and series). I don't mind me some Hellsing Ultimate either.

Yeah, I just started watching Shippuden, we skipped like the last 100 episodes of Naruto, since it's just filler and isn't even in the manga.
