Received a copyright infringement notice from my ISP....

(They don't release my info unless the company tries to sue me)

(And they don;t disable my account unless it happens twice)

This is the demand given to the ISP by the copyright holder:

1) Remove or disable access to the individual who has engaged in the conduct described above; and

2) Take appropriate action against the account holder under your Abuse Policy/Terms of Service Agreement.

We also would request that you inform the individual who engaged in this conduct that legitimate copies of SNI content are widely available for viewing online, for example on www.sho.com , as well as iTunes, Amazon.com and Movielink.com.

What do?

Got one of these a long time ago. Nothing ever came of it. I just canceled my service and got internet from different company.

Damn son definitely always use private torrent sites.

I've been torrenting/downloading very heavily for close to 7 years now with no issues from my ISP. I usually play it pretty safe and upload download frequently, but sparingly.

When you torrent do you throttle your upload speed? I always do so I'm not maxing out my upload and sharing too much. I know they keep track of how much you upload. I keep my uploads and shares minimal, enough to be a part of the community usually, and I've had no issues. That could be it.

If you're downloading from a public torrent cut off your upload completely. Yes, you're going to be a worthless leech, but if you don't have to share, it's going to make you look a little bit better because you're not uploading torrent info with your bandwidth.

Also sometimes those major shows and movies are seeded by the studios themselves to catch people. Considering they told you to hit up Showtime that may have something to do with it.

Happened to me before District 9 came out on DVD. Sent me one of those emails telling me to cease and desist, blah blah blah. Haven't had any problems since.

I never use torrents. Too many scare stories.

I work for an ISP myself these days, and it's generally true that ISPs don't ask questions about what you're downloading unless you're downloading massive amounts at once. Spikes in your usage draw attention, so spread it out.
