Composing an email to Chris. What seems to happen is that some scumbag Russian cunts seem to have gotten hold of the password for an admin account, and promptly set about renaming the forums, with HIGH-LARIOUS results. Knocked that account down to a normal one, renamed forums to the best of my memory (anyone that remembers the precise names, pls spill beans) and fingers crossed service is as normal.

Doom tomb wasn't called so before, but it's ok cuz I like the new name.

Still, you guys have serious issues in the interviews subforum too no? Wouldn't an update to a newer phpBB perhaps be nice?

And yes, will speak to Chris about it. I know I'm pretty much in charge these days, but such questions are above my (non-existant) paygrade.

When I just posted in the now playing thread, I noticed that those Russian bastards gave me an avatar of a penis in a basket. And I'm not kidding.

I can only apologise to everyone for this. For those unaware, Metal Reviews was targeted by Russian hackers earlier today, who changed avatars, renamed forums and caused mischief. Here's a visual representation -



MR's lovely back is scarred slightly in that Crast is right - this is a phpBB issue and could well happen again. Fortunately in this case, I was able to bring my Admin Pistol and stop these scumbag hackers before they could do serious damage. But, we need a software upgrade, a programmer to implement it, and money to pay him or her to do it. It's more complicated than anything the site leadership can do on their own, even if we didn't have incredibly busy personal lives. All I can do is apologise again, and say that we can't run this place without you users, and if anyone has/knows of someone with programming experience and/or money to donate, please do hit the donate button and/or send me or Chris an email and let us know. I think in the short term we'll look at adding another high-level admin user besides me to the forum - lucky I was around today, I'm not always.

Again, guys, we are truly sorry about this. Being hacked, even with as relatively silly results as this, is a real violation in more ways than one, and damages online communities like this that rely on the good natures of their visitors to help support something we all love. Thanks for your patience, thanks to Crast for pointing it out to so me quickly, and thanks for reading.

YW, Thank YOU for Admin the changes. Sounds like a good idea to change them. They've been the same forever, for better or worse.

I was pretty close to logging in this afternoon too. Good thing I didn't, I was at work and penis on my work computer would look pretty bad.
