The Los Angeles Kings finally won their first ever Stanley Cup after beating the New Jersey Devils 6-1 in Los Angeles.
The Kings were actually the eighth and last playoff seed in the Western Conference. They are the first ever team to be the last seeded playoff team to win the Stanley Cup under the current format (which began in 1993-94). The Kings knocked out the first seeded Vancouver Canucks in the opening round, then swept the second seeded St. Louis Blues in the second round, and then eliminated the third seeded Phoenix Coyotes in the third round before defeating New Jersey in the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Kings are also the first team to win the Stanley Cup on home ice since Anaheim did so in 2007. The Kings had their first chance to win at home in the fourth game, but New Jersey won the game 3-1. The series went back to New Jersey for the fifth game, which the Devils won 2-1. However, the third time was the charm for the Kings, as the series moved back to Los Angeles for the sixth game.
Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings! You deserved it!
