Its been pretty entertaining so far. Do they still do boxing? I remember in 2008 all the criticism because the scoring/judging was horrendous, thought maybe they just did away with it altogether. |

MMA should be there. Already is wrestling, judo, boxing, etc.. If we can have triathlons then why not MMA? |

If we can have triathlons then why not MMA? Agreed, I think MMA has more than done enough to solidify itself as an acceptable sport for the Olympics. |

Agreed, I think MMA has more than done enough to solidify itself as an acceptable sport for the Olympics. I don't think violence is really the image the olympic committee is after. Even the boxing only allows amateurs and they wear a full head gear, and the fights are stopped MUCH quicker than in professional boxing if one fighter gets a couple of good punches in. The image of the olympics is all about a representation of the world coming together in friendly competition despite their differences. MMA leaves behind too many bloodied faces to match the image. I doubt it will ever happen. |

They could handle MMA the same way they do boxing. No elbows to the head, fully geared up, only amateurs, etc.. And get refs who know what they are doing and it becomes another boring Olympic sport. But it's in there. |

Why do you need MMA when you have all of its parts in separate forms? As you mentioned, taekwondo, wrestling, judo, boxing. Keep it as is. I caught some water polo today. That shit is kinda fun to watch. I wish I cared more about the olympics. *waits for fridge to enter the thread* |

Why do a triathlon when you can keep them separate? |

DevotedWalnut wrote: Why do a triathlon when you can keep them separate? Hmmm I guess. Triathlons exhibit endurance and different muscle groups, while MMA would exhibit mastery of skills in multiple areas at the same time? There's a nuanced difference there that makes me still not wholly convinced that MMA would be worth being on the Olympics. Can't explain it yet.

Usain Bolt! holy shit! also, he stopped halfway through an interview with TVE when the American anthem started playing. Michael Phelps! holy shit! it's been bad for Portugal, though. Judo was the biggest disappointment. Telma Monteiro, female -57kg European champion, was eliminated, as was João Pina, male 73kg Euro champ. probably going back with zero medals, but we did make quite a few top-20 finishes. |

Only 2 fucking Gold. SIlver/Bronze is still LOSING fucknuts! We'll win more gold. We have another 1 or 2 to come in the Sailing, plus Sally Pearson is in with a good shot in the hurdles, and then you've got our world champion men's hockey team, and the number 2 in the world women's basketball team. Those are our best chances, but we have a few other potentials. I'd say we will come away with no less than 5 golds, and possibly up to 7 or 8. |

![]() Six months from now, the entire British cycling team will be disqualified for massive doping. As for us, we're fifth, but Russia will overtake us eventually (probably today or tomorrow). And there's Germany too. 6th would be great, 7th would be good. But who cares about these nationalistic inanities anyway?.. |
