Post subject: | Album Art as Home Decor |
In before the "that's gay", fuck you. Now, to the point, I just moved into my new place and my Static Tensions and Taxi Driver poster are still in storage in Ohio. I basically have nothing in terms of decorations in my new place, because all I've moved are like clothes, bedding, kitchen stuff, books (but no bookshelves to display them with and give the room some character). Hence, in order for my place to not feel like a prison cell, I'm thinking the cheapest and most awesome home decor might be framing some vinyls. Has anyone every bought frames for a vinyl and does anyone have any suggestions on albums? I'm a Baizley fan boy so I'm going to try and find Phantom Limb on vinyl. Other than that, I can't think of anything else. Nothing too violent or offensive, because I don't want to scare folks off and what not. |

My brother used to have a kitchen wall of 60's and 70's classic vinyl along with some humorous conversation/starting stuff like burt bacharach, robert goulet silly one-hit wonder seventies pop .. he just mounted the vinyl straight on the wall in a checkerboard pattern. |

Never done frames for record sleeves. I used to have Red Sparowes liner notes taped to my bedroom wall because it was pretty. |

I used to have tons of album flats. I really miss them, but they were just beat to hell after three or four years. You might try ebay or something like that for "album flats" which were cardstock 12x12" reproductions of the album artwork. Almost all the ones I had were produced in the CD era, so don't think they were an anachronism from the 80's or anything. go to http://skinniesrecords.com and inquire about individual bands. He just may have what you are looking for. I wouldn't bet on hardly anything that was not on a major label to be around though. In my experience the indie metal labels just didn't bother with them. They were mostly part of the Concrete Corner promotional scheme. There are probably tons of Dream Theater ones left. I had everything up to LIVEtime before and he had plenty of them a few years ago. People usually didn't bother looking at what he had, so that sat for a long time until someone like me that went through everything found them. I paid a dollar each for them at the time, but don't be shocked if the price goes up due to him having to go through the thousands he has to help you out. I'm not guaranteeing anything. He could have what you want and is willing to send them to you fairly cheap or he could tell you he doesn't know what you are talking about. |

I recommend getting one of these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20126065/ Me and my girlfriend were planning on framing vinyls, but the frames were way too expensive. Plus, it's much more practical to use a ledge and I think it looks better. |

It's pretty cool. Don't know what the gf will think of it, but I'm demanding a room of my own where I can put vinyls on the walls... |

Just print stuff off the internet and tape it to the wall. |
