I'm republican... but socially liberal.
2 questions :
1-isn't that what Schwarzenegger pretends to be ?
2-are you old enough to vote, if so did you vote for Bush in the last elections and why, if not, who would you have voted for and why ?
just curious
1-Any many who votes in a bill that restricts the sale of video games and restriction the freedom of artistic expression is NOT socially liberal.
2-No, I'm not. I would have voted for Bush. I don't have much time right now to get too much into it. In a nutshell, I'm one of the rare people who think that he's not that great of a president nor is he that bad of one. He makes mistakes just like many before him, but I think a lot of people blame him for way too much. He's an OK president. This is an unpopular opinion here, I'm aware, so I'm prepared for some ranting. Most Europeans I meet seem to hate him with an unbridled fiery passion.
I won't judge GW Bush on what he does in your country (I don't know enough about it to) but his international postures have been disastrous for the image of Americans everywhere around the globe... now everybody hates americans which was different when Clinton was president and would have been with either Kerry or Gore...
what I do hope is that Condie Rice will not take his place in the next election (better be Hillary Clinton)...
see how I managed not to bash you like Zad would probably have...
I appreciate it. I'm really not in the mood to discuss his international postures at the moment because I only forsee a long, drawn out, pointless debate.
I will adress that I believe the image of America stems from Americans themselves creating that image. We show very little respect for those we disagree with in this country. Democrats will exagerate, yell, argue, and sometimes flat out lie to make our president seem like Satan and it works. The recent fire the president has come over was even referenced in a newspaper in Iraq with an overall message of "keep fighting and killing Americans, because they are wavering". We are also too overzealous (my mom for example who is ultra conservative) with the whole patriotism and America rules shit. I'm proud of my country but it has just as many flaws as any other democracy. In the end, I believe both sides are at fault for America's poor image. Also. I'm not saying you are, but many Europeans who have jumped on this Bush-bashing bandwagon are also extremelly ignorant, stubborn people. Most, if challenged, will have little or no idea as to what they are talking about as if they are only repeating what someone else told them, rather than information from valid sources. Hell, Americans do the same thing.
I despise Hillary Clinton. She's someone who is a democrat but is socially conservative almost for the sole sake of gaining support. Rice is actually a smart, strong woman whom I would be satisfied with leading the country. She would make a much better leader than Clinton, anyhow.
