I love Vasquez. I own all of Johnny, Squee and Invader Zim, not to mention a bunch of folders I drew Johnny characters on a few years ago. |

I used to quote Happy Noodle Boy at telemarketers. "Fucking toaster! That's all you'll ever be! A toaster!" Man, I was bored. |

the sample you posted wasn't that funny... is the rest of his stuff that chaotic, or was the sample that way because of the character who wrote it? |

It's the only sample I found, and it's pretty random... it's not the main comic, just an extra or bonus... the main story is fuckin' amazing, it makes you think and it manages to create a character whith whom you can identify and fall in love with, even if it may seem mounstrous at first glance. Amazing I say, amazing. |

Happy Noodle Boy is a comic created by the main character in JTHM, which explains its mindlessness because well, Johnny is insane. ![]() |

Jhonen Vasquez is indeed in a world all his own. It takes a different state of mind to really enjoy his cartoons. Invader Zim is fairly accessible, but for the most part everything the man puts to paper is a downer. Beneath a smirking cartoon surface lies a bleak and misanthropic outlook on life. The over the top goryness of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is made all the more disturbing by the fact that it is so crudely drawn. As if by a small child. In fact, most of his stuff has this child like quality despite that it is often dark and violent.. The Happy Noodle Boy cartoon was a poor choice of an example. I think it is thrown in there sort of tongue in cheek anway. I haven't read any of the comics in a long time....but I guess you can get them at Hot Topic. (gasp*) Anyway, it's definately something different, but buy and read at your own risk. |
